Re: You have another think coming

I can't for the life of me deduce how "you have another think coming" makes any sense. Think is not a noun. It can be a noun , it just isn't used as one very often. Ever hear someone say, "I sat down and had a good think"? In the full phrase, "If you think that, you've got another think coming" the...

Re: Prologues in Query letter: Pro or Con?

Not sure if this is the specific post you were thinking of, Cabby, but Query Shark comes down on prologues here.

Kristen Nelson has also talked about prologues a few times and is also generally anti-prologue (but not always).

Re: Inspired by NB's blog post today...

The one-sentence pitch seems like one of the times you most need to pay attention to whether you have a situation or a plot . Reading Nathan's Jacob Wonderbar one-line pitch example, I feel like I know the plot. Many of the one-line pitches in the comments (though by no means all of them!) seem to v...

As long as it's better this way, I think you're allowed to call it inspiration.

Re: The logistics of pen names

If you skip to about 18:50 in this podcast , Gail Carriger (of Soulless / Changeless / Blameless ) talks for a few minutes about using a DBA. I remembered the interview because Gail also says she chose to use a pen name because she's a teacher. So it sounds like her motivations were similar to yours...

Re: Till or 'til?

Two usage notes from Dictionary.com : Usage note Till and until are both old in the language and are interchangeable as both prepositions and conjunctions: It rained till (or until ) nearly midnight. The savannah remained brown and lifeless until (or till ) the rains began. Till is not a shortened f...

You're welcome-- glad I was on the right track.

If you want to find more videos like that, try Googling "motion typography," "kinetic typography," or "typography animation." You can also just search YouTube for "typography."

Re: Is present tense ever okay?

This question had me trying to remember what was the last novel using present tense I'd read. Googling, I found references to all of these books being in present tense: Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood The Night Lawyer by Michelle Spring Dull Boy by Sarah Cross The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ry...

Merit badges for writers; now featuring your shiny brains

I've been standing quietly in the back recently, notebook in hand, seeing if any of the NB forum topics jumped out at me as something I'd completely missed while working on the set of merit badges for writers I've been posting on my blog. The forum's inspired me to add several badges to the list, in...
