Re: Share your opening sentence!

I've written a prologue for my current WIP, but I haven't decided whether I really need/want it or if I wrote it really just to get me started. So I'm going to share the first line of the first chapter: Zoe Gray's nightmares didn't come every night, not anymore. And this is the second sentence, whi...

40,000 words in and I change it to YA!!

@#@%$H@$LKJ@#$*&@(*#&$%@:OI#$J$(!!!!! I just really needed to get that off my chest. I have made a decision for the better (I hope) to change my WIP from romance to YA. I just couldn't stand by the scenes I'd written (yes, I chickened out). Some were pretty steamy... I couldn't even read them out lo...

How about making it more private. Only allow people who sign in to view messages in the forum. Its rather annoying to post something and see 500 views and only 4 responses.

Re: Looking For Alaska by John Green

Sorry, but it didn't do anything for me. I found it depressing and never got the point. Did it have a climax? It was like reading the journal of a 15 year old outcast who tries to reinvent himself, but ends up being more of a stalker to a girl who doesn't care about him.

Re: THE DRIFTER - Query

Taking all your guys' great advice into consideration, here is my revision: Dear ... I’m seeking representation Personally, the agent already knows your are seeking representation. You may want to begin with the story part for THE DRIFTER, a 55,000-word paranormal romance novel for young adults. Fo...

Re: Revised -- Prologue Critique Please -- YA Fiction

PROLOGUE A cauldron of blue light churned in the valley sky, casting a watery reflection over the surrounding mountains and a deep shadow over the valley floor. The town residents, tucked into their houses like rows of babies in nursery cribs, remained quiet—sleepily oblivious to the silent flurry ...

NEWEST QUERY: When Seventeen-year-old Nicola Summers goes outside to take out the trash, she finds her boyfriend Tristan chained in the driveway Chained in the driveway? Was he chained and left in the driveway? or was he actually chained to something? (just a thought I had) after being beaten by a ...

Re: Life of a Suburban Unicorn - Ch1

Any thoughts on this chapter would be appreciated. :) ----------- Chapter One Elizabeth Brooke was not spying. I like this opening. She stood in her own backyard, admiring a fine view that anyone could see from the road behind her, trying out a brand new pair of binoculars. If she happened to be po...

I guess that's all good and well, but I can't get over the millions that were wasted by crashing a ship into the moon last year.

Re: Young Adult Fiction

The best thing for a book's publicity is to be banned. Once you tell people they can't read something, you make it nearly impossible for them not to want to read it! Amen. I think it is human nature to want to explore the banned info. One of my fave books, Fahrenheit 451 (not YA)... I agree with YA...

Re: Lost - Possible Spoilers!

My one area of question is with Michael's "ghost". That's the only time I remember Hurley hearing the whispers before one of the apparitions showed up - they're usually an auditory cue for the "Others", and Ben was wary enough of them to warn Rousseau to run the other way if she heard them when he ...

Re: New Ideas Interrupting Current Work

I hate it when that happens, but thats the price we pay for tapping into the creative realm :)
One thing you may want to consider is writing down the general concepts in a notebook, that way they are out of your head and you can return to them once you've completed your current WIP.
