Re: New Historical Novel

Dear . . . Giant bald-headed birds bury their beaks into corpses strewn about the Cahita Indian village in the foothills of Mexico’s western mountains. Two men in gray habits, wearing flat-brimmed hats [The hats might be too much info for the query] , see the sign of death in circling raptors. Orde...

Re: Query for RONNIE IN HIGH SCHOOL *new version*

Thanks, cheekychook... You're absolutely right that I was panicking over three rejections and thus created a more confusing version than ever! I'll get to work on revising it again! Oh and also thanks for noticing that I'm searching for a title... Somehow that has been the hardest part of this whole...

Re: Different Version of Query---Meant To Be---Commercial Fic

I tried to up the stakes in this new attempt---we'll call it Take 2 of the back-of-the-book version.... When NYU professor Daniel Gardner moves from Manhattan to Highland Park, NJ, he decides to volunteer on the local summer theater production as a way to meet new people. He doesn’t expect it to ch...

Re: Stray Rejection?

She sounds a tad confused. I think it would be totally appropriate for you to send her another email asking her to clarify whether or not she's looking at your manuscript.

Send sample pages?

So, some agents specifically request a query and a certain number of sample pages. But what about those who don't specify about the pages? Should I assume they only want a query letter and nothing else? Or should I tack on the first 5 pages just in case?

Thank you!

To compare or not to compare?

First off, sorry if this is repetitive - I'm sure I saw a post about this somewhere but I couldn't find it. Should I compare my novel to those of well-known authors in my query? Is it good to show I know my book's place in the market, or is that just extra stuff I could chop out of the letter? Thanks!

Re: Query for RONNIE IN HIGH SCHOOL

clara_w wrote:I like this, I really do. Only problem would be: Query one story at a time. Don't query both books in one.

Pitch the first. If everything goes right, you won't even need to pitch the second. =)

Thank you, clara_w, I'm glad you like it! But it's one book with two parts. :)
