Re: Launch PartAY! Advice?/Press Releases?

FYI
Writing a Press Release isn't as bad as a Query or Proposal but it still fits firmly in the This Sucks category.

Exciting to be at this point but it's a whole different kind of writing that I'm not used.

Re: E-Publishers

Just do what feels right to you. If you go totally "Indie" it's a ton of work but you have total control. Even though you "signed" you will most likely do most of the PR yourself because I can't imagine the company having the resources to do much besides get you lined up on the different websites. I...

Launch PartAY!/Some things I've learned...

Anyone here ever organize a launch party? Any advice? My wife and I are beginning to organize for a December 3rd party.

Re: Most efficient mode of outlining?

Great advice so far. The one thing I will add is if you have room to dedicate a wall there is nothing like being able to see everything laid out a single eye-shot. Page flipping or scrolling down a screen didn't do it for me when I was trying to organize the threads for my book so I sectioned off a ...

Re: Writing Metaphors

I like it. Looking at a finished book or piece of writing as an ore or a resource works for me. Words may go away in the form of print but it will be morphed and recycled over and over in the minds of readers and writer. The words we write will influence thoughts and actions, spark memories, and ign...

Geeez Polymath.

I'm going to have to print this out and carry it around so that I can try and fully comprehend it.

What'd I tell you about making me feel un-smart. :)

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread

Glad I clicked on this thread, although I'm not a Sqeee-Guy. I'm more of a fist-pump, air-punching, "(Expletive of choice)--yeah!" guy. Bottom line is our hard work and dedication does pay off in small ways at first and then hopefully larger paybacks come later. I haven't been checking my sales beca...

Re: New York Observer dumps on readings

Readings are sort of brutal for me, an undiagnosed self-proclaimed ADD guy. I have to be twiddling with something in order to "listen". Good that I can multitask and comprehend at the same time but not so good when trying to discuss something serious with your wife. I like it when the author tries t...

Hey Matt My source for that stat was my web guy...http://leighbrooks.com/. Mobile Versions of Websites

It's not often I'm stuck in traffic as I'm fortunate to find most of my remodel work close to home (swing a hammer for money) but I couldn't pass on a job 25 miles from home. Anyways, I was being one of those guys perusing my iPhone and creeping forward with my knees on the steering wheel and I came...

Re: Multimedia e-books

I totally agree sbaird42. I borrowed a friend's iPad to see what was out there and found a multimedia version of War of the Worlds. It was totally overdone and felt like a video game. Too much onscreen movement is distracting and like you said, having a choice on whether or not to take part in the e...

Re: Victory!

I'm getting a hard copy tomorrow - Editing is so much easier on actual paper! Yes. Print it out and get really close to the printer. It's fun to watch all the writing that YOU did come out in it's physical form. Flip the pages, hold it tight, and put it on the kitchen table as a centerpiece. Then b...

Re: CreateSpace

This post probably belongs in Self Publishing but here's my two cents. CreateSpace is a nice one stop shop because they can help you with design work. It's a good and bad thing. Good for artists with limited resources and bad because the ability to get it all done quickly can lead to haste. Most peo...

Re: I suck at autographing.

the first printing is 150,000 copies Hah! I've started with 108(auspicious number I know) Paperbacks and 50 Hardcovers. About halfway through. I'm actually pretty pleased with the meager sales as I haven't had time to do much in the way of getting the "word" out. I'm waiting to release the multimed...
