Re: Which celeb/s have you met?
Good Lord, knight tour, please relay what it was like playing chess against Kasparov, Karpov and others who you correctly state I've never heard of. Throstur Thorhallsson sounds like a chess master and/or a professional strongman competitor. With a name like that you could win every mach on pre-tour...

Re: Which celeb/s have you met?
In my previous career I was fortunate to not just meet a lot of famous people but to interview them. Only been star-struck once, and it was a very brief session. It was my first paid gig, so it was a big deal on two counts. Back in 19 and 94 I did a story about Michael Jordan when he played baseball...

Re: Scrivener and Windows Alternatives
I like OneNote from Microsoft. Ditto. I've tried all the software already mentioned here and nothing comes close to what you can do with OneNote. For actual writing I use Word. OneNote is incredible for organizing. If I'm out somewhere and happen to see something inspirational and I've got my camer...

Re: The Tickler File
When I worked in journalism I was so damn busy I didn't have a folder - I had a giant pile of crap on my desk, under my desk, in my desk, on my computer desktop, in my car, in my house, in my head, and a bunch of other places I can't remember. These days I keep everything stored in OneNote by MS Off...

Re: The Introduction Thread
Been writing most my life, been fortunate enough to make a living at it for about two decades. Never written a book, though, so one day I said - hey, why don't you write a damn book? That's what I'm doing now.

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse decide to expand and are looking for a fifth member. First question on the job application is: "What is your calamity, your horse color and how would they improve our organization?"

Re: Hot & Cold!
If you can afford to put some time distance between you and your writing (not a day or two but at least a month), it's very helpful. When I can make myself laugh or say - whoa! or whatnot, while not remembering I even wrote it, that's a good sign. Whenever I finish some major writing I shove it in a...

I'm a big fan of the watched pot school of thought. If you're not writing your next book, snap to it - ain't nothing you can do about the one that's out there now. You've overcome a giant hurdle by landing an agent, congrats. Many people would kill to be in the spot you're in now. Take advantage of ...

Never knew the sales number but I know GC was a solid book. Amazon has it for $18.47, retail was $27.99. My knowledge of the business side of books is horrible, but my guess is that amazon/internet sales account for a greater percentage than real stores? Let's say the average price among all sellers...

Four years ago, I had a conversion experience. It took me another year to muster the courage to come out to my family as a Tarheel. My wife went to Duke, we were married at the chapel on the day they played UNC (coincidence), Jay Bilas and the ESPN people were staying at the wedding party hotel, al...

Re: Which book have you read the most number of times?
Everything by Mr. Hemingway, at first just because it was so easy to read. Then I arrived at Old Man and the Sea I couldn't stand it. Didn't read that one again until years later and loved it - it was a totally new experience for me because I had grown up.
