Writing in 1st and 3rd

I could use some opinions on this issue. My completed MS is written in 1st person for the main female MC and switches occasionally to 3rd for the male MC. I'd say about 2/3 of the novel is in 1st female and the other 1/3 in 3rd for the male. Why I chose to do this? Well I had a hard time connecting ...

Re: DREAMER: YA

I am pleased to submit for your consideration my completed young adult mystery romance, DREAMER. In this 70,000 word tale of secrets, unique abilities, and young love, never been kissed Rory Adair is torn between twin brothers while trying to solve the disappearance of four missing women, by follow...

Re: Pretty Bird of Prey query 1

I've never read Jodi Piccolt, but I think this sounds more like a suspense novel more than women's fiction. I think there's at least some sort of minor romance or something in a women's fiction. You might be able to get away with "suspenseful women's fiction" but I'm not sure if it fits that bill. S...

Re: Constantly second guessing

I can write two separate novels at one time. I thought I was weird, but it seems that I may be some mythical being? Just kidding, of course. At the same time? Like each hand on a different laptop? Then, yeah, I'd say mythical being all the way. Haha, Matt. Not two laptops at a time, b...

CreateSpace, LuLu, SmashWords...Which One?

I'm winding up the revisions to my novel and looking to upload soon. But which platform should I use? I was under the impression that if I upload to SmashWords, it gets out to all of the e-book purveyors except for Amazon. So I would also have to upload to CreateSpace as well? Is that right? Should ...

Re: Constantly second guessing

I can write two separate novels at one time. I thought I was weird, but it seems that I may be some mythical being? Just kidding, of course. I do write romantic historical fiction as a rule, so it's not very hard for me to work on one novel for a while and then put it aside for the other. It's a mat...

Re: Formal Training

If you have the money to take the course, then sure, what can it hurt? I willingly admit that one of my regrets from college was not taking the available courses on writing novels (which were led by a well-known, published author). But as others have said, I think life experience, reading, and revis...

Re: Was Self-Publishing The Right Decision?

Thanks for sharing, Dave. I decided last night to self-publish the novel I've been querying for over a year now. Several requests with the same feedback...great book, we can't market it. So I'm going to take the plunge. If I make money that would be great, but right now, I'm looking to get positive ...

Re: Query: Frankenstein's Monster: Undead Again

Hey folks -it seems like I've been working on this query forever. I'm so close to it now I've lost all objectivity. Please look it over and tell me what you think. After years of self-imposed isolation from a world that despises him, an attack by creatures born of forbidden science spurs the immort...

Re: Query: THE COLOR OF THE SOUL

Cool premise. Despite having only ever known life as a slave in the Civil War South, John is a gentle giant of a man. I don't like the construction of this sentence for some reason. There are so many words before you even get to your character. Perhaps you should reverse them: John is a gentle giant...

Re: Query: Beginnings and Ends

I just want to say that I'm so sick of paranormal, fantasy, and science fiction. BUT, your story sounds AWESOME. Very unique and fun. And I can pronounce the names of your characters. So snaps to you on all of this! I second the suggestion that you check out Query Shark; it's a good grounding on the...

Re: How do you interact with your fave authors online?

I've just joined the Twitter revolution and am following my two favorite authors. One post sporadically and the other posts several times a day. I occasionally check out websites, but I don't as a rule. One has a very active blog, but I always forget to follow it for some reason. If we count "person...

Re: Discouraged

I think it's perfectly OK to put aside your writing for awhile. I've put mine aside (for the most part) since I changed jobs this past fall. I've had brief flashes of inspiration or I've worked on editing, but I have written very little new material. I have had some personal matters to attend to and...

Re: Romance novel. Query. LOVE AFFAIR

revised...Please leave comments Dear Agent, I was originally a fan of the delve right in query, but I am re-considering this. I wrote a new version of my query where I opened it with a sentence about why I was querying that particular agent. And a sentence about my novel (genre). It seems to have w...

Re: Setting Goals for Your Writing

I have to admit... this is never something I've had to give much thought to. I've found, in the three novels I've written so far, that while I'm working on it I get the same itching desire to return to it when I'm away as I would with a gripping pageturner I was reading. It floats in the back of my...
