Re: Starting to Query

Way to go, Ken! I'm officially excited for you ... a full? It's totally acceptable to flip out for a while. I got a request for a partial last week and I did the same dang thing. We get so many disappointing moments in this lifestyle, why not enjoy the high moments while they last. I've got my finge...

Re: Query letter for Too Enchanted *second times a charm*

Before I start, let me preface this by saying, I didn't read your first version or any of the comments made to it. I wanted to give you a fresh perspective based on THIS version of your query. Like any self-respecting magic toad all Tirian wanted was to live a quiet life in the forest kingdom of Gar...

Man, now I just read Quil's response and decided I want to let it incubate ... after I already came out. Dern it!

Re: Author says he wrote vicious [Amazon] reviews, not his wife

It's sort of like a reverse "American Idol" syndrome. When you give people carte blanche to say what they want, it is typically the idiots and the bitterest among us who use it to their full advantage... and they'll do it again, and again, and again. Not to say that there aren't some legit book revi...

I can't afford to develop an opiate addiction, until I become a massive bestseller of King-ian proportions.

Re: YA sexy bits.

If you're asking if it's okay that the council (or whomever is in charge and wanting the proof) asks to see blood-stained sheets or something along those lines ... I don't think, given the context, that it's too far out of the realm of YA. She's already been "defiled", I don't think showing proof is...

Re: MS Cover Page Issues - Technical Question

Charlotte's suggestion seems like the easiest fix for your problem.

Just tell word to start numbering with "0" and go from there.

Congrats to Jacques!

I'm from Baltimore, so it's kind of ingrained in my blood to hate the Colts now ... but how can you not be happy for someone who gets awesome news like being drafted into the NFL?

When Should You Feel Comfortable Calling Yourself a WRITER?

Just bored and curious. I'm sure most of us here think of ourselves as writers, because we've recognized that writing is something we enjoy doing (even when it drives us insane). I've realized though, I only currently refer to myself as a "writer" when I'm around my writing friends, online, etc. Whe...

Re: Starting to Query

I know what you mean about it being like job interviews. Great analogy.

The rejection letters sting (I've had 5) , but I just got my first request for a partial ... and that is a giddy feeling for sure!

We're on the rollercoaster now, my friend. Just got to make sure we stay strapped in!

Re: Fine-Tuning Your Novel

I was at that stage not too long ago, myself. It may feel like it now -- the middle revisions are the toughest -- but you will reach the end of them eventually. For me, I realized I was done when I got to the point where I could read through my manuscript from beginning to end, and the only thing I ...

Re: Use of suddenly

I think suddenly is best avoided. I don't know that I get the distinction between first and third person. Haven't ever heard it put that way. That's because you don't live inside my brain, Quill. I should probably say, that I don't notice it -- or it doesn't feel jarring to me -- when I'm reading f...

Re: Twitter writing #hashtags?

You know, I twitter all the time ... and I don't think I've ever hash tagged any of my writing tweets.

Guess that isn't much help, but now I'm curious to know what others use.
