Oh i so agree with this - especially when it comes to editing - reading great, strong writing motivates me to keep chipping away, deleting those unnecessary words in hope that I can create something remotely close to what I've read.

Great advice polymath - I think all writers of MG fiction (and YA to some extent) should be wary of using high level language (cliches, idioms, figurative language, inferences etc) - all research indicates that these are [potentially] problematic for older children/young adults as they are still dev...

I didn't know what a Leitmotif was (although i do now!)

My opening line:

You can always tell who the bullies are; they’re the ones who sit there with a perverse grin on their face as if gathering ammunition to use later.
