Re: Staddicts

YAY! Although, I fancy my obsession quite a bit. I need to learn how to cope with the mounds of bound notebooks hovering over my desk and my utter panic when I can't find my lucky red gel pen. :-) If I got stuck on stationary, I don't now how I would handle it. All that stuff it soooo pretty. Almos...

Re: NaNoWriMo

I think there's two separate debates going on here.... 1. If NaNoWriMo (or anything for that matter!) gets you to sit down at your computer, avoid your full-time day job, the Bransforums, People magazine, and your children long enough to actually flesh out that book you've been knocking around in y...

Re: NaNoWriMo

The WIP I've been working on for about six months is only 35,000 words long, so I don't think I would be able to crank out 50,000 in just one month. It would be a great accomplishment for me if I could do that though. But I really don't think it's physically possible for the story to be any good. P...

Re: NaNoWriMo

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has signed up for NaNoWriMo but after reading the forums, I can see what you mean about people feeling like failures casnow. I don't know that it would stop many people writing the story they want until November though, most people on there seem to have a couple of ...

Re: Favorite Lines from Novels

All of my favourite lines come from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels! Let's just say that if complete and utter chaos was lightning, he'd be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting 'All gods are bastards' - The Color of Magic The duke had a mind that...

Re: Gordon Korman's Advice on Dialogue & Adverbs

That's a really useful idea actually. I didn't think of adding quirks to my characters dialogue to help differentiate between them. Thanks for posting this, it's given me a way to bring out my characters a little more instead of them being a tiny bit flat. I understand about having a lot on the go t...

NaNoWriMo

I saw someone else mention it in passing in another thread and I wondered how many people on this forum actually take part. I signed up for it for the first time this year and I'm already beginning to sketch out ideas for it. Who else is taking part and if you are, are you already beginning to sketc...

Re: Staddicts

*sigh* After a rough week I consoled myself with two adorable new A6 pads, one A4 Jotta pad, some Post-Its and a new parker pen. Most women who want retail therapy will buy clothes, shoes or a handbag but not me, I just want stationary. If I ever get a new man I'll be easy to please I suppose, all h...

Re: How old are you?

I'm 29 and I started writing when I was 13 or so. The writing stopped for a while because I was busy being a young mum but I started writing again back in November :)

Re: Comfort books

There are only a a few books I consider to be 'comfort' books. One set is The Belgariad by David Eddings and the other is The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop. Occasionally I'll delve back into Anne McCaffrey or Raymond E. Feist but more often than not, you'll find me with the first two.

Re: Speed reading and writing

When it comes to comments and blog posts, there are times I do end up looking like an idiot but that's okay because I know that I can be forgiven if I write something brilliant the next time. As for speed reading, my technique? It was having kids and being at university at the same time. I had very ...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I'm enjoying reading y'alls posts! I'm not a huge commenter, but I'll try to do better. :) I posted a teaser from something new I'm working on. And when I mean new, I'm only a few paragraphs in. :-P The password (to all my teasers) is teasertuesday. http://www.amandaplavich.com/2010/02/16/teaser-tu...

Re: Staddicts

OMG--finally a name for my affliction!! I have all these cool notebooks lying around--and I keep buying more...problem is I have notes in all of them and now I'm confused. I love post-its in strange shapes and bright colors. I love buying those little planners that I'm too disorganized to bring wit...
