Re: The Misery of Being Published....

Publishing is an industry that does not suffer from an abundance of logic or good business sense. A close friend's book has sold over 20K+ copies (and is still selling strong) and has won major industry awards, yet Random House dropped him and won't publish the next book in the series citing low sal...

Re: Kindle vs. Nook

Having owned both, the real question is what's the point of either when there's an iPad to be had. Buying a Kindle/Nook rather than an iPad is like buying a beeper instead of a phone. And even price shouldn't matter much because. as you know if you've owned many Apple products, you can sell your iPa...

Re: New Kindle Coming This Summer?

I don't know how much good Jobs's stance will do but it sure is good to see someone stand up to the porn industry. I'm so thankful I don't have the burden of parenthood in the current state of our society.

Also, as always, Google's entry will change everything.
What google entry has changed anything? All I remember from google is the iphone wannabe. One look at that thing was enough to see it wasn't a contender.

Re: Start with THE HOBBIT or FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING?

That's kind of like saying other poets came after Milton but they improved on his writing style. Uh, no.

Re: Embarassing lines in my book

I haven't come across anything quite like that but I did find this while editing the other day.

"Fin, please," pled Ned.

I nearly vomited on my keyboard.

Re: The Google Tablet Cometh

If it's not made by Apple, what's the point. It'll be ugly, inelegant, and have too many buttons. (It'll probably be affordable, though.)

Re: Till or 'til?

"Till" is something you do to your garden or somewhere you put your petty cash. " 'Til " is the contraction for "until". I don't care what the dictionaries say. It makes me want to scream every time I see till used for until. Even the masters do it, though. C.S. Lewis's...

Re: Funniest book you've read?

Other than the obvious Hitchhiker's Guide, I'd have to say:

Confederacy of Dunces

...and Twilight (that was comedy, right?)

Re: Authonomy: The Future of publishing?

So I've checked in on the Authonmy thing a few times and it continues to feel slimy. When I looked a few days ago my book had risen to the top 5 in all its categories without me playing the social game at all. I think that right there is a telling commentary on the quality of much of the work on the...

Re: Authonomy: The Future of publishing?

I keep hearing authonomy mentioned in places so this weekend I thought I'd see what it was all about. I was mortified. I uploaded the first 10,000 words of my independently published book and instantly people started 'backing' it, commenting, and sending private messages. My first reaction was that ...

Re: Craptastic covers... what are your pet peeves?

how did your publisher take it when you told them you had already hired your own artist for your cover?
Published independently. Could not be happier with that decision.

Re: Craptastic covers... what are your pet peeves?

I hand-picked and commissioned the artist for mine, then directed her on the artwork and design. It wasn't terribly expensive and it's been worth every penny. I joke with her that her artwork has sold more copies of my book than my writing. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k221/zpeteman/Coverspread...

Hard to imagine anything being worse than the current Kindle royalty. What are the caveats?
