Ooh, you got yours today? =}
I'm still in love. Using it right now to post this. It goes everywhere and my only regret is I can't use it while I sleep. Oh well, that's when it charges.

What did you find lacking in iBooks vs. the benefits of Kindle? Haven't been able to see the different versions so very curious. The first big turnoff for me in iBooks was the two page layout when the iPad is in horizontal view. I know I can switch the font to make the words smaller and fit more on...

Sorry, I'd be writing but I bought an iPad...
Didn't want to wait for 3G. One, I live near Seattle; WiFi hotspots are like coffee shops here - oh wait =). Two, even if I ventured away, I do have a 3GS phone. First impression? Oh yeah! Think Ferris Bueller oh yeah. Brought it home in it's shiny Apple bag and laid the contents on my desk. Giddy. ...

Re: Length of novel issues
My word count is on the shallower end for the first draft but that's because I usually work on action and dialogue first then throw in the description, backstory, setting. I also have the hints of subplots in the first draft which I go back in and flesh out later. Still for this novel, fantasy no le...

Re: Genre writing
Fantasy. Magic usually plays a large part (except in the novel I'm editing right now) or it's contemporary with a hint of romance.

Re: Another copyright question
I'm not choosing to register a copyright for unagented finished novels. The US laws on copyright covers the majority of my concerns. http://www.sfwa.org/for-authors/writer-beware/copyright/#Register I agree with the sfwa's information. I'm not in the least concerned about agent theft and barely conc...

Re: The iPad
From what I've gathered the e-book prices are actually in line with what Amazon has been charging - that closeup just happened to capture e-books that are priced at $5.00 at Amazon as well. I also really like the ability to change fonts, buy right from iTunes, the ePub format, and it looks like the...

Re: The iPad
I think this will kill the other e-book readers. The iPad starter is the same price as a Kindle DX, in color with 140k + apps to peruse and more. Seeing $4.99 books on the list took my breath away but I guess I expected it. Would've preferred a camera (video conferencing awesomeness), multitasking c...

Re: Books and Movies Based on Them
I read first. If I know there's a movie coming out that looks interesting, I hunt the book down first so I can read before seeing it. I do the same thing to my kids. When Harry Potter was first coming out in the movies, I read the Sorcerer's Stone to them before they could see it. Shockingly, they a...

I adore The Oatmeal. They also get bonus points for being Seattleites.

YA fantasy, lots of magic, no vampires, werewolves, or zombies. Couldn't work the last one in, sadly. There is an imp though

Re: Advice From Amateurs?
Advice that helps and makes sense to you is good advice no matter from whom it came. I've learned so much from so many different sources, quite a number of them "amateur". I don't trust advice automatically because it came from a professional just as I don't disregard advice from an unknow...

Re: Does anyone write humor?
I'm not so good at humor except in small doses scattered throughout. I think I get maybe 3 or 4 bursts of funny and that's it. I tend to be dry. I do enjoy humorous novels; Katie MacAlister applies humor liberally in her fantasy novels and cracks me up all the time. When I try it, I feel like I'm ov...

Re: Music or quiet when you write?
Prefer quiet. I use music to drown out noise if I'm writing when the house is active. I try not to listen to vocals though or I start singing along and it makes for some interesting writing when I head back in to revise. Finding that noise canceling headphones are a wonderful invention and they give...

Re: Third person point of view with multiple viewpoints
I have 3 POV characters. I switch them in the same chapter but keep one POV constant in each scene.
