Much as I love io9 for all things geek, I had never heard of this delightful flash fiction exercise (for longer stories they have a page called Saturday Short Stories ) until today when a post came up on my RSS...

I agree. There's not a lot of cool in being an executive assistant except for the drama of trying to coordinate multiple schedules with multiple admins. I set up the cool stuff but don't actually participate in very much of it.

I honestly have no idea how long it took me to come up with, what I thought would be, the first draft of a humungo work. (It has since become a series. I think. Hopefully.) I know it was at least three years for sure, because I did the bulk of the first draft as parts of NaNoWriMo. So at least four ...

Just started Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. So far it's interesting, although I keep thinking I'm further along than I am...

I can't read while I write because I start thinking 'oh, crap. I'm not this good. What am I doing?' because I constantly question my ability (which I hear is okay since other writers do, too). Ditto... I third this one. Although, as others have said, I can read classics or books that are wildly out...

I don't know if it's helpful at all, but I'm planning to publish my series (y'know if that whole picked up by an editor then a publishing house thing actually happens) out of order. In thinking about the stories I ended up having to move books around, but they're still jumping around chronologically...
