Re: Forum game: Random facts about you
This may sound a bit morbid, but I enjoy walking through old cemeteries, mostly the ones that are alone in some abandoned farm field, or just a random plot in the middle of suburbia where the old stones are surrounded by new houses and stores. Maybe it's my writer's mind, but so much is revealed jus...

Title: The Scarlet Daughter Genre: Historical Fiction When I am weak, then I am strong. Naomi recited Mama's favorite saying repeatedly in her mind, as if the words could ease the pain. She stared through the frosted panes of her bedroom window at the muted blue of the March sky. The day was resplen...

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?
Mostly mine is the lack of world building. I write historical fiction--often set in another culture too--so I have SO MUCH research to do to make it even close to believable. I generally will highlight a section that needs more research and I have a huge Word doc full of areas that need clarificatio...

Re: Time to Fess Up - How Long Is It Taking You?
Too long! I first had the seeds of the idea back in college about four years ago. It's changed a great deal over that time; I've written about four drafts and am on my fifth one now (and hopefully the *right* story). I think my love of history and other cultures has played a big role in why it's tak...

Re: How many of you belong to non-web critique groups?
I found mine when I participated in NaNo in 2007. It's a small group--and we keep losing members due to people moving away and all, so we're actively trying to "recruit" new ones--but it's really been helpful to meet in person. We generally try to meet once a week or once every other week ...

Wow! The book sounds incredibly interesting too--something I'd definitely read.

More eBook Talk! The Nook Library Support
I'm not one for eBooks--yet--especially with the Kindle's incapability to loan eBooks from the library, but this article about the Nook and local library eBook loaning is one that's answered a few questions for me: Nook Feature Review--Library, Sony eBook Support I do agree with the reviewer when he...

Re: Hand vs. Type
I type my actual draft but I do a lot of outlining/note-taking by hand. Ideas generally come to me when I'm not anywhere near a computer, so I have a a few little notebooks I carry around with me, plus a normal sized one that I have next to my bed for those ideas that come right as I'm trying to fal...

Re: When I grow up I want to be...
I've been writing since I knew how, but I never knew that's what I wanted to do until junior high or so. Before that, I wanted to be a meteorologist (until I realized how much math and science were involved). In high school, I really wanted to be an archeologist--and still do in some aspects, althou...

Re: Holiday Plans - anything fun or just shopping?
Christmas with family and helping my MIL put together my sis-in-law's wedding, which is two days after Christmas o_O I forgot to mention that her wedding was planned in a month. :P So yeah, from next Wednesday through Sunday, my life will be insane. 'Tis the season, right? However I try to remind my...

Re: What We’re Going to Have to Give Up and Get Used To
In the year 2018, writers are much less plentiful than twitters or texters, unless the writers forego adjectives, adverbs, and all articles in their works. Full-length novels will be approximately as long as this post. In the future's frugal economy, readers download their reading material from fre...

Re: Do you write the same genre you read?
Mostly. I devour anything historical, whether it's historical fantasy or historical fiction. It's almost the only genre I read. I say almost because I've been getting into YA lately--but even then I tend to gravitate towards historical or fantasy based ones---fantasy that's NOT vampire or werewolf r...

Re: Facebook vs. Twitter
Facebook, by far. Most of my friends aren't on Twitter and I normally don't spend more than five minutes on Twitter any given day. On the other hand, I'm always checking Facebook. I've been a member of that site a few months after it started when it was just for networking with college students. It ...

Re: How many projects do you work on at once?
It depends. Normally I work on one novel idea at a time, but if I'm inspried by an idea for a short story, I'll switch gears and work on that for a little while. I find that it's nice to have a few smaller side projects in order to keep from getting burned out on the novel idea.
