Re: writing advice from a bass player...

Re: Men and Fiction

You'd get on well with my hubby, nick. Are you like him: you won't touch anything of Rankin's bar Rebus? My genre is horror and sci-fi; I think we total about six book cases between us, including some WW1 satire. Reading's like a bad case of piles: it gets worse the more you scratch it. Ihate a good...

Re: How important is likeability?

To me it's a difference between a character being sympathetic and unsympathetic: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2009/02/sympathetic-vs-unsympathetic-characters.html I've just read the blog and Lord Foul's Bane comes to mind here. The MC raped a woman and spent most of the book angsting over it. So...

Re: Keeping Boys Reading

Well, I have a four-year old boy and seventeen-yera old one. I can honestly say my four-year old's read more books than my teenager. The school my youngest attends, they've signed up for E.R.R., (Early Reading Research). Kids are given a library of different books and they get to 'read it' whether t...

Re: Men and Fiction

I must be going wrong somewhere; my hubby reads at every opportunity. And it's a male author. Hmm, I think we need to go have a chat...Ian Rankin's my rival.

Re: Advice From Amateurs?

I received a bit of flack from someone (on another community) who felt that there is nothing anyone can learn from an unpublished author. I highly disagree. . Oh, lol... I know who this is. And it highlights the dangers of writer's sites and its members going god on everyone. Just because a book is...
