Re: Good Books - Bad Endings
Animorphs Most evil ending in the history of ever. Now I'm intensely curious. I read a handful of the books, but it didn't hold my interest long enough. Anyone wanna fill me in on what happened? (Or are there unwritten rules around here about not spoiling book endings?) Seconded. I remember watchin...

Re: Which email provider do you send queries from?
I've had similar issues with gmail - I queried one agent using it and it only sent half the sample pages through. Also, I wonder what agents think of when see they an email from 'name@hotmail.com', etc. considering hotmail is pretty much the provider of choice for 13 year olds using myspace and forw...

Re: Action, anyone?
I think it doesn't necessarily have to be 'action' like an action scene (gun fight or car chase, etc.) per se, but those ten pages definitely need at least some forward movement and tension. For most readers, ten pages will take them around five minutes to read, and it's those first five minutes in ...

Re: Rejection Stats
It was so short that I'm going to post it verbatim: We suggest you learn to write before seeking representation, but good luck anyways. This was a rejection, sent from an assistant, on a partial request. It hurt especially because I have two degrees and I teach writing. You know what, d minus? That...

Re: What writing disorder do you suffer from?
I'm commitment phobic. I type my draft with so much formatting it looks like a mural - I use bold for wording I dislike and want to change later, underlining for plot points that may change or which need fleshing out/foreshadowing earlier in the plot, and italics for parts of sentences which aren't ...

Re: Can you read while you write?
oh i so have this problem! i just can't do both. i think it's mostly a focus thing for me, though, because if i read a book i can't do anything else, and if i'm writing i can't think of anything else. like, ever. although, i am reading 1984 at the moment, and it almost serves as inspiration for my c...

Re: How important is likeability?
Think Holden Caufield. Sometimes I loved him, other times I wanted to smack him around the red hunting hat.
