Re: The importance (and difficulty) of gestures
Yep, I'm guilty! Sighs, smiles, looks, glares, grins, frowns, and to a lesser extent jaw clenching, fist clenching. The thing is I know that I do this and it annoys me to no end. The problem is figuring out the proper balance between stage directions, character description, and dialogue. I usually h...

Re: How many years until 50% e-book sales?
That's good news. However, it does make me curious. As the percentage of readers switch from paper books to e-Books that will have an effect on how many paper books are sold. Less people buying paper books should equal smaller print runs per title. Although, the creation of the book is about 10% of ...

Re: Marketability question
I think it's as marketable as it's always been. If you're asking to try and find the "easiest" market to break into, I think it's more important to find what you love to write ( based on what you love to read ). Don't let the marketability of the market determine whether or not you write f...

Re: Quick Writing Challenge - Dialogue between 3 generations
Josh reclined back, his legs spreading outward, and cupped his hands behind his head. "Damn, I can't believe I arrived two hours early just to make sure I got through security on time. Now, I'm gonna have to wait for another two hours just to board the damn plane." The business man sitting...

Re: Quick Writing Challenge - Dialogue between 3 generations
So much for generating activity. Anyone care to hazard why the lack of interest? (I have a thick skin, really. Sniff Sniff) I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the challenge. People just have different things that interest them and that they will respond to. You may want to try to post top...

Re: Moving characters around
You can use page breaks or chapter breaks to speed forward in time the way Ink mentioned. Just have the character in a spot where something important happens then jump forward to the next important scene. And you can also use transitions to juggle time. {example} The drive home was long and perilous...

Re: Band Names if I had a band
Well, in order to make my procrastination not as bad, I'll use writing names. Simply the Muse - more of a classical, easy listening style band Writer's Blues - the blues, of course Deus Ex Machina - rock, heavy metal Published!!!! - yeah, you gotta include the exclamation points ;) Genre Specific - ...

I think you pretty much have it right for the page break. But I think it's:

I'm not 100% certain though, so you still may want to check on it.

Once upon a horse Sonja feared the darkness across the river might be too deep. Sighing, she turned and found a block of cheese made of Venusian so she picked up a sword to pierce into the looming thicket. "No!" said the block of cheese! "Don't go there!" But the cheese did not ...
