Re: Critique/Review Sites and Groups

Hey guys, that's an interesting idea for a share your work forum. One of the reasons I've chosen to have just a few forums is that I personally get confused when I approach a discussion forum with zillions of different forums. I think it would be totally fine if you posted, say, short fiction or ex...

Re: Finding an unforgettable (and hopefully unused) title...

I struggled mightily with the title of my recently finished mss. I had a list of about 40 possibilities on my hard drive and just could not find the right one. I ended up with "The Devil You Don't Know," which is actually a snippet of dialogue from one of my characters. It summed the story...

Re: Confession time

As my wife just reminded me, I actually get up, get dressed, go to the gym, come home and get back into my pajamas to write!

I hadn't actually given it much thought, but yes, it's very weird. I just like to be comfortable when writing.

Confession time

So do you write in your pajamas? Or are you one of those disciplined writers who get up and get dressed first?

Me? I write in my pajamas. ;)

"A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Specter." Anything with Ronnie Specter's voice on it is worth owning.

Re: authonomy

It seems the consensus is that it's not worth it to post there. Advice taken. That said, I agree that there's some good stuff buried amongst the garbage. And it seems like they are always low-ranked. Weird.
Thanks!

authonomy

I'm interested in what everyone thinks about HarperCollins' website, Authonomy. I've gone so far as to become a registered user, but I freeze up at the thought of actually uploading my manuscript. Just. Can't. Do. It. Is there an upside to putting my work out there? Downside? I read the terms of agr...

Re: Hand vs. Type

I'm a typer only, although I have a tremendous respect for anyone who can write an entire novel longhand. I never could for one simple reason -- I can't read my own handwriting! It would suck to come to a really important scene and find myself wondering what in the hell I was thinking at the time .....

Re: Critique/Review Sites and Groups

One of the places not mentioned where I like to hang out is the Writer's Digest Community at http://writersdigest.ning.com/

They have several places that offer peer critiques of your stories and query letters. It's a nice place, and I see several Bransford followers there, as well.

Re: Post Your Favourites

Hmmm. My favorite books? It's tough to distill the list down, but I'll try. 1. The Last Convertible by Anton Myer. God, what a great book! 2. Winds of War and War and Rembrance by Herman Wouk. Two books, I know, but absolutely essential reads! 3. Salem's Lot by Stephen King. It was the book that mad...

Re: Outline or Out of the Mist?

I guess I've evolved into an out-of-the-mist writer, although while writing my first novel (currently in revision), I wanted to outline it. I ended up writing about 20 outlines during the two years it took me to write the mss. Each time the story veered off into uncharted territory, I would panic an...
