Practice is definitely the best way to improve the productive-receptive skills balance. I am a language teacher who spends hours a day encouraging students to use a common second language to interact.

Polymath's detailed reply is fabulous, not much I can add. As a reader I enjoy multiple POV books, whether they feature the goodie/baddie contrast of crime thrillers or the way different people interpret the same events. The latter point fascinates me anyhow, so like anything it comes down to person...

This may be the stupidest question ever, but I've just had a full manuscript request and the agent asked to specifically send it "so I can read it on my Kindle."
