Re: Start with THE HOBBIT or FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING?

I started with Fellowship since there is no chronological need to read The Hobbit first. Also, I decided to read the books before the movies came out (I put off reading them for a long time), so I wanted to finish them as quickly as possible. You could ask yourself "Should I watch The Hobbit fi...

Re: Best TV show of all time?

The original Transformers, hands down.

Do mini-series count? If so I vote for Rome if I can discount the last episode (or parts of it).

For comedy, Big Bang Theory wins.

Re: TWILIGHT - thoughts?

I think the reason men hate/dislike the Twilight is simple and doesnt require all of this analysis. I dont need to look at linked youtube videos... you can find ANYTHING on the internet, and I hold strong that most men dont like it for the same reason. Why? Because we dont share interests with teena...

Re: TWILIGHT - thoughts?

I will have to take your word on that, BlancheKing. I dont much care about double standards, as the standards are pointless (gotta love PC america), but I do wonder who these 'men' are who were asked why they hate Twilight. I was speaking from real world practicality, and I still highly doubt I coul...

Re: TWILIGHT - thoughts?

I would suppose the same goes for hot-busty-sports-watching-sandwich-making-private-lap-dancing female character, if she ever made it onto the shelves long enough without loud female protests about "the objectifying of women". There is no supposing about it, and no need for loud female pr...

Re: Short Story - Critique Please

I liked it, nice twist at the end. Some questions did come up, though. What struck me most was the 3 hour time frame from when he first looked at his watch to the end... it didn't seem to add up at all. So he waited around for three years. I thought maybe because they found the body he can finally l...

Re: Urban Fantasy

I knew your pages gave me an Urban Fantasy vibe when I read them, I'm not always crazy ramblings. I always took urban fantasy to mean "Fantasy set in the modern world", though I am sure there are more qualities to it like some have said here. I got in a debate with a friend of mine who sai...

Re: Query: The Valley and the Shadow - new version page 3

aspiring_x, Your comments do help, it's just trying to show all of this without being too wordy/long. I would say it's literary, it's told through her voice so you get her inner thoughts/turmoil, and there are some themes and statements, whatever I could leave in during the brutal editing process. I...

Re: Query: The Valley and the Shadow - new version page 3

Thanks, Serzen. Here is an updated version. Lucinda is a vulnerable young woman in a France starved by famine and torn with revolution. When offered liberation from the oppressive world as a vampire, she turns her back on the light of the sun and God and embraces Dark Immortality. The dark gift empo...

Re: Query: The Valley and the Shadow - new version page 3

Thanks, aspiring_x. The last thing I want is for this to sound like that (dreaded) book, so I will keep what you said in mind. I must admit I had to look up "Breaking Dawn", and again, I will keep this in mind for changes.

Thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated! =)

Hi aspiring_x! hope my comments help Still too rough I know, but I'm ready for round 2. (I know Remus, it's still too long! I'm trying, really!) Thanks again, you guys! Re: Query: The Valley and the Shadow

Thanks for your insight, Yoshima! I'm letting everything stew around in my rattled brains right now, trying to find the right angle to this. Your comments will be very helpful. The second is fast paced, more action if you will. Who knows which agent would like which one better. (That is the question...

Re: Query: The Valley and the Shadow

Thanks, Tycoon, I like it. I think I want to keep the timeframe in the beginning, though. I'm not sure it matters but I think it adds to the setting/ambiance/atmosphere as the reader continues on through the query. What do you think?
