Re: The Future Has Happened Already: E-books are now #1 format

I would predict, a $99 e-reader before Christmas. Surely you mean before LAST Christmas, don't you? Big Lots was selling them for $89.00, and recently put them on sale for $79.00. Admittedly, these are no name/no wifi brands, but as one reviewer has said, they are terrific "entry level" d...

Re: E-Publishing in general

By platforms, do you mean software formats or distributors? Smashwords, which I am working with now, takes a word doc file and smushes it into formatted ebooks appropriate for each distribution channel. Off the top of my head these formats include html, pdf, epub, mobi, kindle, sony, and txt, but yo...

eBook Freebie: if you like Native American stories

I have been testing the Smashwords waters, in preparation for publishing the memoir I am co-author on. Smashwords does all the conversions needed to make a word .doc file readable on different devices. Once that is done, the book is then examined to see if it meets the stricter requirements of the i...

Re: I just found out Chick Lit is dead?

Oh, dear. I'm not going there, JT. I was thinking Chicklets. I was ahem, just poking my nose in to give Quill props for the very same line: Detecti ve Street Racer stops the Bass Boat Dope Smugglers. Keg Party Lit. Yar. Carry on, Mira. I see you may have some willing fodder stepping up to the plate....

Re: Is this a joke?? Nathan? Really?

Okay, I've finished sulking now--see, Mia, I'm much worse than you!-- and I am ready to join the conversation again. I hope you have time to hang out with us for a while, Nathan. Anytime you feel like starting a new thread and telling us what a Social Networking Guru does, I would like to read it. I...

Re: How much do you pay for getting your manuscript proofread?

Polymath, judging by your posts on the forum, no one could be any better at what you do than you are! I would give you anything to edit, in a New York heartbeat. I really prefer doing developmental editing work, so I see rough manuscripts by novice writers that you probably wouldn't take on. If an au...

Re: Footnotes in NF MS

Art, I am using footnotes and endnotes in the draft of the memoir that I am co-authoring. The latest version of Word makes it incredibly easy to do. Ultimately, if they get thrown out in the interest of making a book look more 'reader friendly,' I won't care, because I will always be able to go back...

Re: Agents by genre

I've always had the impression that while agents will represent Poets who have established themselves, the field of poetry isn't lucrative enough to justify an agent's time otherwise. I would love to hear that I'm wrong about that.

Re: Query: Nirvana: Absolute Freedom: Spiritual Non-fiction

Also, non-fiction how-to's proposals can be sold almost single handedly on the size of the author's platform. Celebrity author's don't have to work nearly as hard. Or in lieu of a huge audience, publishers might be swayed by an author's unique qualifications for writing the book he/she is writing. B...
