Re: Ask Nathan
Just out of curiosity, how do you know it's a bounce-back and not a quick rejection? I can't speak for specifically what the others have received, but my subject line says, "Message failed to send" and when you open the email, it says, "Message failed permanently" and redirects ...

Re: Ask Nathan
Nathan! I haven't been around much lately (crazy busy!), but I thought you might be able to answer a question for me. I know you're crazy busy, too, but I'm not sure where else to ask. There's a particular (rather popular) agency that only accepts email queries to a specific email address. Unfortuna...

Re: Rejection Stats
Hm...without looking it up specifically, I've sent about 50, received about 35 rejections, a couple personalized (or personalized-ish), one full request, one partial request, and one request for more time to read pages. A lot of those I knew I was gonna get a no from, however. I'm also toying with a...

Re: Craptastic covers... what are your pet peeves?
I don't like covers where the author's name takes up half of the cover, usually replacing a cool picture or the title. I'm not sure why, that's just always bugged me. I've seen a few badly photoshopped covers as well, but for the most part the name thing is probably my biggest pet peeve.

Re: Unreasonable Expectations
I'm ridiculously patient, so I don't have this problem. My unrealistic expectations more likely come in the form of expecting to be published haha. Though that doesn't stop me from expecting it, darn it!

I'd rather have an appendix than a website. Now, a website I could go browse around after I finished might be fun, but I'd need the appendix to be part of the book. Most of the time, if I'm reading I'm not somewhere with a computer right there. Also, I'd find it more trouble to have to go to the com...

Re: Writing with ADHD
I don't, but I am easily distracted when writing, particularly if I'm at home. The most obvious suggestion I have is to find a place that's away from distractions. If you can't write while online because you're checking your email and chatting with friends and reading blogs, etc. (guilty), then pick...

Re: Can you read while you write?
Yeah, so I avoid reading anything even remotely similar in terms of style or plot. My last one was a suspense/spy story (sorta), so I wouldn't even watch a couple of movies that came out that were in the same genre. My current story that's a bit easier because there isn't a lot out there I've read t...

Good luck, Charlotte!charlotte49ers wrote:I'm adding to my list! I never thought I'd write an adult novel, but I had an idea spark the other day and have played with it some. It's too early to really even know what it is, but I'm really excited about it. :)

Re: Chapters in a Book
It just depends on the story. I've read adult books with chapter titles before. If your story wants them, then why not go for it?

Re: Foreign Language
Tameson, you just made me think of Firefly. Cursing in Chinese was probably my favorite part of that. :D Anyway, I don't really think it's a bad thing. If you're talking about long passages that have to be translated it might not work, but I've thrown random bits of other languages into stories befo...

Re: Are you a good loser?
I've always been a pretty good loser. Maybe that's in part because I don't often expect to win (I did once, and so didn't see that coming). Sometimes I think it would be cool to win, but generally I doubt I'd be the very best out there. And contests aren't all that big of a deal. I mean, like you sa...
