Re: The hardest part of the novel
Sanderling: Good advice. I guess I just feel old and unorganized. Too much to think about. I have to disagree though (amicably) with "amico" (the commenter above me): I don't need what I read or write to be mind-blowing, earth-shattering gold. I mean, I think that would be taking myself an...

Re: The hardest part of the novel
Beginnings are easy in the first draft because it's fun and flies off the fingers (beginners are harder when going back to revise because I realize how much it sucks and can't get it right and can or should do this or that or this or that instead). Middles = tricky all the time (steam running out). ...

Re: When do you (personally) query?
I'm not even anywhere close to thinking about querying. Honestly, I don't even understand all that stuff because I'm still on Step A
I always assumed that I would 1st draft, revise, reviese, revise x million, go through CP's, revise again, CP's, revise again. Then Query.

Re: red-faced rookie
Wow, you've all been incredibly helpful. Each response helped me in some way, so to all commenters: thanks! And Sommer Leigh, your advice is solid. And I particularly liked the last paragraph. It got me thinking and I liked what you said. Cheeky (sorry I think I have your name wrong, I can't flick b...

Re: Your first novel and other stuff
So many thoughts running through my head after reading this thread. First of all, group hug for the Branforumers. I love hearing how everyone approaches the writing process. I have a secret fear that I'm not really a "writer", but more of a "pretender" because I have a VERY diff...

red-faced rookie
Okay, so this is where I reveal how much of a rookie I am...still working on a WIP (MG) and oddly finding that as I get nearer to the end, the amount of writing I do each day wanes (I've gone from 1000 words/day to 500)...not sure if this is because I kind of know where its going, so its lost the ap...

Re: Your first novel and other stuff
Thanks for the FB. I have written in the past, but I consider this to be my first for some reason (maybe because I plan to sit and revise it afterward rather than just save it and never look at it again). I found a good quote on writing that I think must be really true: "To gain your own voice,...

Re: What's your editing style?
I like the idea of paper and pen (I'm not in editing mode yet, so I'll cross that fire when I get to it). But I also know that printing will cost me a lot of money, so I don't know. It's likely I'll end up just saying "forget about it" and just re-writing the whole thing anyway because the...

Re: Your first novel and other stuff
Thanks everyone for such good FB and discussion. I have a lot on my mind now and can't really get it all out. I did kind of start with an outline (I couldn't sleep one night - well, I can't sleep every night - but this particular night I got up and just outlined stuff because I was lying in bed play...

Your first novel and other stuff
Hi guys, I'd just like to hear some experiences about your first novels, or the first novel you counted as "real" (maybe because you completed it + revised it fully). I'm only 1/3rd way through a WIP and feeling it is something that a kindergartener would write. Actually the kindegartener ...

Re: Separate email accounts for personal and writing ? names?
Hmm, things to think about I guess. I'm only a new fish in the writing tank, so I'm not worried about being on FB and stuff like that. I'm way way way behind on technology and have no clue about them or access to them (every kind of technology and social media outlet from ipods to ipads to things) b...

Re: How to find word count on your favorite novels
Try this: http://www.renlearn.com/store/quiz_home.asp
You just click on "Quiz store" in the above tab (I think the page is open to it now) and enter the title of the book in the prompt there...it doesn't have all the titles I've looked for, but it has a lot!!

Re: Separate email accounts for personal and writing ? names?
I don't know how you guys link accounts and things... I think I'm going to keep it simple and have one for personal and one for writing contacts/writing blog (if I get blog in future). I don't do FB or twitter and stuff anyway. MattLarkin: Do you use that writing/editing email account also to attach...

Re: Separate email accounts for personal and writing ? names?
LurkingVirologist: Do you have family contact you via the professional account also ? I think I might set up a 1) personal for family...so it has to be my name...but anyway... 2) writing related (contacting writers or whatever...would it be okay to comment on people's blogs with this email or is th...

Separate email accounts for personal and writing ? names?
Hi, I posted this on another writing forum and wanted FB here also..thanks. Hi, wondering if you guys (with blogs or not , etc) keep your personal email and your "writing" email separate? For example, personal email might have family type contacts or whatever... whereas whenever you email ...
