For those interested in trying a step-by-step outlining method, I have composed an article about the method I have customized and put to use for my stories.

Re: Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread
It's a month after NaNoWriMo, but I'm wondering, how many who started out but didn't finish have kept up the steam and are still going forward? My project is looking like it may be novel-length - my current estimate is 80,000 words. I'm picking away at it, and my publisher is waiting patiently. I do...

Re: Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread
I am totally behind in word count, but I guess as consolation, I went into this not planning on reaching 50,000. I suppose as long as you finish and keep moving, and don't lose the energy, that's okay. I am a veteran of a few other things, so I know I will finish - writing projects continue to advan...

Re: I've been working on my synopsis and,
Hi Sarah, I can offer advice that may help, as I just wrote a novella and sold it a month later, and that success came fully from following the tips I learned at a writing workshop. Outlining is key, as you're doing. I might suggest you google "the structure of story" or "the 3-act pl...

Re: Word Count/Writing Challenge - SEPTEMBER
I did great this month - got to 24,000 words of the first chunk of my novel. Now I've put it away while I write the sequel to a novella. Next goal: to have the novella (~30,000 words) done by January, then return to the novel chunk and submit it to my publisher for as a serial.

Re: Word Count/Writing Challenge - SEPTEMBER
For September, my wordcount goal is 6000 words. I only set it so low so that 1) I will feel great for doing way better and 2) I am presently working on preparing a math conjecture (possibly proof of a theorem) for submission So, let's see what it brings. I'll stop in to update, but I have a blog whe...

Re: blogs or websites or both
I keep both blogs and websites, but I think it always depends on what kind of website you have. It's very important on a website to give viewers who are potential fans or enthusiasts a sense of your progress and presence as a person. Some website are set up so you can post a blog there, or other wri...

Re: What are you reading now?
I'm currently immersed in George R. R. Martin, following my Robert Jordan binge (and while waiting for Mr. Sanderson's final delivery). I keep a reading blog, because as a writer one of my activities to keep growing is reading a chapter a day from an author I feel has a lot to teach. I share lots of...

Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY
Claudine, I have a pipe dream about one day, if ever I became a rich writer, rather than buying big houses, I'd invest in a local writer's hang-out that would be a cafe a la Starbucks, open to the public but an exclusive attraction for writers. There would be some accomodation upstairs, so that writ...

Re: The Coffee Shop - JULY
Love this thread! The coffee shop is my office. In fact, that's what inspired me to get a job at Starbucks this last year. I've learned where the Starbucks and Second Cups are, and the other shops of notable repute. I've also got the good study halls at my university, places to go and work. What I'v...
