Re: Duration of action?

first person. The attack was out of the blue and she really didn't know why. The results of the attack change her life forever. polymath, the scene sets up a turning point. I like the way you talk about time passage and psychic access. That must be why it's not playing right to me. The attack itself...

Duration of action?

How long does your action last? My character was just attacked. She isn't a fighter and was overpowered quickly. The encounter only lasted about three inches of single spaced text. It's as long as it should be, I guess. There's probably nothing wrong with it, for some reason I wonder if it's enough....

Re: How do you celebrate finishing a book?

Congratulations heyimkt!! I happy dance pulling out all the moves: the mash, twist, cabbage patch. :) Then I flip through my drawer of ideas until one of them jumps out at me. I start plotting that one. Then after a week or two I go back and do edits. When I got the news that I would be published in...

Re: Character Career Question

To use a literary example: Stephanie Plum to bounty hunters. Television examples: Psych to detectives, Scrubs to doctors. This isn't literary fiction. I feel really bad because it seems most of you wouldn't read what I'm writing. I don't want the reader to put the book down because they think "...

Re: Character Career Question

Thank you. The story itself is a paranormal comedy, but I would like her to be portrayed as a professional. There is no room in the book for the week to week plodding that tends to happen in normal sessions. I want them to get help and move on. Quill, you notice, but does it put you off the book? Ch...

Character Career Question

My current heroine is a psychologist. Her profession is a big part of the novel /series. I've done research, including subscribing to psychology today magazine. Obviously I can't say she's a psychologist then have her performing surgery, but I'm wondering how much leeway I can take with how she runs...

Re: Nominate Your Query for a Critique on the Blog

When detective Lydia Davis apprehended the serial killer she’d been tracking for months, she decided to relax with a camping trip. But after being attacked in the wild, she starts to change in a way that only Ryan Williams - a reporter who's far more than he seems - can understand. Using his job to ...

Am I too late?

I pitched a novel at RWA national conf. I meant to polish it up and send it when I got home. But a head injury and sevear personal issues made it so I didn't get to it for months. So I finally have the first three chapters edited, but not completely polished. Is it too late to send it?
