Re: Teenage Writers?

Writing during lunch is an awesome idea! I've always got my nose in a book during lunch time, but I *am* trying to get into the habit of carrying a notebook. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Teenage Writers?

This is a fascinating conversation, and I'm glad you thought to ask! I'm 14 years old and will start high school next month (right before turning 15 in October). I've been writing seriously (as in 2,000 or 2 hours a day) since last October and have been blogging since September (Wordbird - http://ma...

Re: Research on e-readers for school. Could use some input!

Anything really. How fast does it turn on? How quickly do the pages turn? How easy is it to adjust settings and "maneuver"? Are you satisfied?

Thanks!

P.S. I think the Nooks are cooler than the Kindles. ;D

Research on e-readers for school. Could use some input!

My language arts teacher read my blog and saw that I'm pretty much doing nothing this month (taking a break after the first draft), consequently, she gave me the task of reporting back to her on Monday with every bit of news I could scavenge about three e-readers: the Nook, the Kindle, and the iPad ...

Re: What's your take on the B&N Nook?

Haha, I like "Nooking it." That sounds tough! I did see that the LCD screen on the bottom turns off. The only thing I had trouble with when checking it out was figuring out how everything worked, but that just takes time. Thanks for your opinions. I don't live in the country, so the 3G bus...

Re: Second Hand Books

I don't have many. I do have a second impression (practically first edition) The Chronicles of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery and a really old copy of An Oldfashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott, but besides those, I have hardly any used books. Those two are beauties....

Re: Writing. What's your favorite part? Your Hardest Lesson?

I love the process of writing. Of course, I love it a bit less than having written something fabulous (or crappy, it doesn't matter - I'm almost just as thrilled), but that's natural. The only thing I hate about writing is that it induces the most irresistible urge to procrastinate. I've just begun ...

Re: Finding an unforgettable (and hopefully unused) title...

I haven't written my book yet. I've just been plotting for months, but I have a title I love. Hopefully I won't go crazy and make some drastic change in the plot that makes my perfect title irrelevant. (Oh goodness. Why must I be so unpredictable?) Anyway, my title's changed three times. I would hav...

What's your take on the B&N Nook?

I'm one of those faithful, old-fashioned paper book readers who's committed to keeping the spirit of paper books in the air by never reading an e-book, but my commitment has wavered and I've found that some devilish force has come over me and I'm slightly interested in the Nook. I don't need any cri...

Re: Do you write the same genre you read?

I read just about everything (nearly always fiction), and I expect that by the time I die, I will have written in almost every genre as well - even if they're short stories.

Re: What works better for you: praise or critique?

I know I just need a spoonful of sugar to help the icky, grape-flavored medicine go down. I'm fine with critique, but it's always nice when the person critiquing you is kind and loves you. It never hurts, either, if they tell you what you're doing right as well!

Re: Ask Nathan

Alright, this has probably been covered on your blog, but even I don't have the energy to go back and read through the endless archives or a bunch of categories to find it. Sorry! What (estimated) percentage of books you've represented haven't managed to find a publisher? That seems like the scaries...

Re: Editing - Hardcopy or computer?

I've just finished plotting, so I'm nowhere near editing. All the same, I have a game plan... 1) I'll print it out and go through it slowly with a handy-dandy highlighter and a gel pen. If I have to add ten pages or something, I'll revert to the computer real quick. 2) I'll send the printed, once-ed...
