Re: My epic fantasy - The Skyfall Trilogy
Most of you probably know I released Children of Sun and Moon a while back by self-pub. I've had very modest success so far, but I want to give a big shout out to David and Margo for their help. I'm trying out a reduced price of $2.99. I've spent some time talking to other writers about price point...

Re: Enlisting the services of an editor
Be careful about hiring friends and colleagues. Though it feels easier because you can see them face to face, it doesn't always end well! Unless you are a huge fan of the editor's work, I would consider looking online for editor recommendations from reputable authors. If they agree to work with you...

Re: Another Respected Agent Gets into EPublishing
One last thought. I absolutely agree with you that people make their own choices, but I don't know that I agree with you about the eyes wide open part. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe most writers don't have a pile of extra money sitting around. I've handled some complicated things, some more so than...

Re: Another Respected Agent Gets into EPublishing
Margo, of course you're right. People are free to make their own choices. Writers who believe the indie process is too complicated to go through without a manager might be surprised, though. This month I epublished a small project, found it wasn't difficult, and had tremendous fun. Project #2 goes u...

Re: Another Respected Agent Gets into EPublishing
I actually wouldn't be surprised if some writers felt it was worth the 15% to not have to deal with certain things themselves. The website did make it clear, though, that it wasn't 'forever'; it was for a limited and set term. I missed that. My understand is that it is forever with some of these hy...

Re: Another Respected Agent Gets into EPublishing
I actually wouldn't be surprised if some writers felt it was worth the 15% to not have to deal with certain things themselves. I must be psychic. A writer just left that very comment. She'd rather give Jessica's company 15% than have to deal with hiring an editor, formatting the ms for the differen...

Re: Another Respected Agent Gets into EPublishing
I clicked on the link and read the post, plus the interesting discussion that followed (which has some sharp and to the point comments). The publishing industry is in an upheaval, shifting to digital, and these agents are scrambling to keep their careers. I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box, but ...

Re: Tiny publishing houses -- yay or nay?
I think I may have been slightly unclear -- they have dozens of publications on their website -- but only two are listed on Amazon and Chapters/Indigo. So they have lots of books, they just don't seem to be widely available. I think you pretty much have to order from their website to get their eBoo...

Re: Oh Crap Breast Cancer
I posted earlier...I have breast cancer and know exactly what you are stating regarding the expense. These were my options and worked out very well for me. I hope the same for you. American Cancer Society has programs for funding (Relay for Life) after my last radiation treatment I became their Tea...

Re: Oh Crap Breast Cancer
Now for more really hard news: It is treatable but I need immediate surgery. And, in this economy where our income has (temporarily we have hoped but still not beyond the tight part) gone down by 75%, we made a tough decision that was based on the fact that we just couldn't afford our ever-rising h...

Re: Acknowledgements in e-books
Hi Taylor. Good luck with your ebook. Edited because I forgot to say this -- yes, absolutely thank and credit the person who did the artwork, and thank anyone else you want, just like you would in a print book. Edited again to say you can create live links, so someone can click on the artist, compan...
