Grammatical question

In my blurb… --- Martin lost five thousand dollars, his job, and his girlfriend all in the same bet. She left him standing alone on the casino floor; his will to live left with her. A bachelor party and a crass waitress named Janice stall his suicidal plan long enough for him to watch everybody else...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread

I have been waiting a long time to post in this thread. Several years ago I came here for answers on a novel I was working on. Since then, I have shelved that novel, written another one, and pressed publish for the first time. My debut novel THE REVERIE is now available on Amazon here: http://www.am...

Re: Writing a quality blurb...

After much re-tooling this is what I came up with. Martin lost five thousand dollars, his job, and his girlfriend Jenny all in the same bet. She leaves him standing alone on the casino floor, and his will to live leaves with her. A comedy of errors involving a bachelor party and a crass waitress nam...

Re: Writing a quality blurb...

Wow Beethovenfan, thank you so much. That was very helpful.

I read it over and over and knew that it sounded too dry but I couldn't figure out how to spice it up. This gives me a much better starting point.

Thanks again! Gonna get working on it immediately.

Writing a quality blurb...

I've been stuck writing this blurb for the past month, changing words here and there and moving sentences around and such. I've been so focused on it that now I think I'm too focused on it. I'm not even sure if it covers everything a blurb is supposed to, and I certainly don't know if it grabs the r...

What are the rules for using Trademarked names?

In my current MS I make a reference to Monopoly, The Los Angelas Lakers, and The Price is Right. Am I allowed to do this or do I need to change the verbiage so the reader knows what I'm referring to without actually mentioning the name?

Finding an Editor

I'm in the market for a good editor to edit my 81k word manuscript, but I'm also a struggling starving artist. Where can I find an editor that will do a good job but won't charge me a ridiculous amount?

Having serious trouble

So this is my first time writing a synopsis and I'm having serious trouble. I read all of Nathan's posts, as well as some others from random author blogs, but I'm still having trouble implementing that golden knowledge into my own synopsis. A big problem I'm facing is: A) My book is told through mu...

Do most authors use Pen Names?

I started thinking about this after I discovered several authors I knew writing under pen names. Do most authors use pen names? Is there a specific thing to shoot for when choosing a pen name?
