Desperate for inspiration.

I finished my novel last month, well not totally finished...but it's in the hands of editors right now so for the time being it's finished for me. Shamefully I have not been writing much since. I've been thinking about plot, characters, and stories non stop but I just can't seem to be inspired by an...

Re: Query for Till the Sun Comes Up (Adult Fiction)

Thank you guys so much for your comments. With Hurricane Sandy keeping me locked in my apartment I have a little bit of time to work on this. The comedy part of my MS is more situational than specific jokes but I'm hoping the personality of the characters appropriately present their comedic value b...

Query for Till the Sun Comes Up (Adult Fiction)

It's been a long time since I wrote a query and I remember that one being not very good at all. Any and all feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks! Dear (Agent) (Customized tag line on why I'm querying) Martin’s gambling addiction costs him his girlfriend, his job, and every last penny to his nam...

Re: How many Characters do you have?

Wow. I was wondering about "number of characters" just the other day and now it finds it's way into the forums. In my most recently finished MS I have two main characters, eight minor characters, five supporting characters, and about ten miscellaneous characters. I don't purposefully tell ...

Re: **Updated**Excerpt - YA Dystopian -- Untouchable

Love the writing and the premise. This is my first excerpt that i'm "critiquing." I'm barely able to take apart my own work so take everything I say with a grain of salt. UNTOUCHABLE (working title) CHAPTER ONE 7:00pm - 36 Hours Sitting at our small folding table we use to eat our rations,...

Re: The hardest part of the novel

It always seems that the part I'm currently working on is the hardest part of my novel. Right now I'm in the home stretch with about 15k left to go and I'm starting to stumble. I'm at A. I have C already written, but B is proving to be very difficult. So technically it's not quite the ending, but it...

Re: Question about chapter length

I'm not sure if YA is different, but I've always felt that a chapter should be as long or as short as you feel necessary. Adam Ross has some chapters, which are short stories all to themselves, immediately following a chapter which is only a couple of pages. In my current WIP I have some chapters th...

Re: Writers Who Run

Speaking of zombies, depending on where you live, there are a few actual zombie-survival-obstacle course events that look like a ton of fun. I'mma check one out once the leg is working right again. I ran that in Darlington MD last year and I think I may do it again this year. It was soooo much fun....

Re: First 637 words of my novel, The Phoenix: A Gathering

When The Hulk grows to obscene proportions he always seems to retain a tiny portion of the pants he was wearing. Unfortunately I'm not nearly geek enough to tell you whether or not this was ever addressed in the comic, but it certainly left me with a more..."alright, this is a fun story for kid...

Re: Your first novel and other stuff

So you're incredibly self conscience about your work, struggling with the idea of changing everything or terminating it all together, and everything you type you doubt... Congratulations. You're a writer. My first novel took me about two years to fully complete. When I finished it I was less than sa...

Re: Literary Fiction - Untitled

Thank you! I needed that haha.

It also means a lot coming from someone who isn't really into gambling. The rest of the book has nothing to do with gambling and I was worried that the first chapter may turn some people off.

Re: Your Favorite Fantasy

My biggest fantasy would probably be to somehow get on The Daily Show or The Colbert Report to promote my book. That would be awesome.

Literary Fiction - Untitled

This is the first chapter of my WIP. I'm in the "second guess myself" and "doubt everything I write" stage (I feel like I've been there a while) so I figured I mind as well post it and see what the world thinks. It may run a bit long for a first chapter..(just a warning) “What’s...

Re: First 637 words of my novel, The Phoenix: A Gathering

I'm definitely drawn into the story but I'm a little confused over the details... This will be the sixth time it happens. The first time, it was his twelfth birthday and not only did it burn down his house; it took his parents in the fire too. Since that first year, he’s been afraid of what he is. W...
