Re: MS Formatting Question

The question isn't about special characters, but made up ones. I created a new language and an alphabet to go with it. So technically they're images, but I currently have them inserted in the text like letters, since that's what they are. Does that make sense? I just don't know if it would be a big ...

MS Formatting Question

I'm hoping someone out there has had some experience with this. My MS includes occasional bits of "text" from another alphabet. In my case it's a made up language, although the problem might be the same even if it weren't. I'm just wondering how I should format it for sending it out. I've ...

Re: Most efficient mode of outlining?

This is rather embarrassing... I don't even know about the snowflake software. I was just referring to the basic method of starting with a basic idea and then expanding on it, a layer at a time. Just in case you haven't seen this, it's explained here ( http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/art/snowf...

Re: The gap between the first draft and the second draft?

I brought up a similar question recently in another thread and I totally feel your pain! I'm only on day two and it's killing me. I'm giving myself two weeks. I don't think I can do more than that. I also feel like two weeks will be sufficient for me to be well enough removed, assuming I manage to k...

Re: Most efficient mode of outlining?

Rachel - I'm an uber planner. I love spreadsheets and very detailed outlines. J K Rowling's plot grid really was the inspiration for my main method. However you said you're looking for a happy medium. I would personally suggest the snowflake method. I feel like it gives you the flexibility to delve ...

Re: What's Your Approach to Revision?

Thanks for all the responses everyone! It's good to know what other people are doing. I have some other projects already in the works, so I'll probably spend some quality time developing them a little more and give myself a break.

What's Your Approach to Revision?

I've been writing my first "real" novel for what feels like at least 238 years. Seriously! However, I recognize that this has been a non-stop learning process and I'm assuming (desperately hoping!) that when I get around to novel number two, it will go much more quickly. In the meanwhile, ...

Re: Writing the things that don't matter

I think I made a mistake when titling this thread. I understand the importance of not including things that don't matter. I'm struggling with how to include things that need to matter but don't yet. How to make every element work as part of a greater whole. It's not about foreshadowing (although tha...

Re: What would you do?

This same thing happened to me recently. I'm working on one project, which I'm really excited about and then BAM a completely genius idea hits me over the head. All shiny, just like you said. I can only tell you what I've decided to do; whether or not it's good advice remains to be seen. I have &quo...

Re: Writing the things that don't matter

I totally agree with you, Nicole. These kinds of things DO matter, which is why I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out. Because right now they feel like they don't matter to me, which is why they get left out. But they're important, so I need to figure out how to make them matt...

Re: Writing the things that don't matter

Wow! Thanks to both of you for your input!! Sometimes you work at something until you can't see straight, but a fresh set of eyes allows you to take a step back and see things differently. :D Ryan, I really liked the idea of sort of planning out the various kinds of things I want to include and putt...

Writing the things that don't matter

Help! I have a lot of obstacles in my writing, but most of them I feel like I can get around, or over, or through, or under, or whatever. But there's this one problem that is a complete mystery to me and I have no clue what to do about it. The problem is I don't know how to write about the stuff tha...

Scene and Sequel

Does anybody out there know if there's a book (or books) out there that focus on Scene and Sequel? I know the internet has a lot of information, but it all starts to sound the same after a while and I'm really interested in a much deeper look at the process. I've been looking around for a book and h...
