Re: Writing Sex Scenes

Chantelle: What you are describing in your post is discomfort in writing sex scenes! Practice, practice, practice. Do you think it will magically just 'come to you' and you'll be good at it? Sex scenes don't have to come across as rape. If it's rape you want, then write a rape scene, but if you want...

"The Interview"

Hi all, Today, my blog is featuring the first of a 6-part interview with my 2 main characters - Richard and Janelle Grayson. This is actually a synopses, of sorts, touching on the highlights of what the book is all about. The time is the 1830s, and this young couple is now married with 3 children, i...

Intro new book main character via excerpts from another book

Hi to all, I'm a newcomer to forums in general and to Nathan's forum in particular. My 'Excerpts' entry is part excerpts and part blog post. I wrote a blog post to introduce the main character of my next book by way of excerpts from my current book. You'll see what I mean. Please go to: http://wp.me...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

I did a blog about why to write it. The link is in my signature, you'll have to scroll down a few to get to it. I think that sex is an important relationship building tool. You can also destroy relationships with it. Characters will do and say things during sex that they won't otherwise. You can re...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

Sierra, Sierra, Sierra . . . *sigh* You obviously are not a romance writer. And, you don't understand HUMAN sex, either. "Only so many ways to have sex?" PUL-EEZE! I've been married for going on 43 years now, and I'm here to tell you, the variations are darn near endless . . . I really am ...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

Mike R - You are quite correct. The sex scenes can define the characters in ways that aren't possible with the constraints of society and culture getting in the way.

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

My 'no place in YA' comment may be as simple as a definition of YA. Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but MG, middle grades, is 7th and 8th grade, or thereabouts, which means 12 or 13? Therefore, YA would be 11 or 12?? That is way too young for sex scenes. I'm an adult paranormal sensual romance writ...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes

I totally, totally agree that sex has no place in YA novels, even though sex is increasingly a part of that genre, like it or not. I, however, don't write YA novels. Adults, generally speaking, enjoy well-written sex scenes - if they didn't, and shunned books that contained them, why are there almos...

Writing Sex Scenes

Hi to all, I'm a newcomer to forums in general and to Nathan's forum in particular. Today, I'm putting a post here, and another in 'Excerpts.' My 'All Things Writing' entry is a blog post. I wrote this blog post to offer suggestions on how to get over being uncomfortable with writing sex scenes. Mos...
