Don't forget: there should be a purpose and a goal for the action scene. Don't drop a gun battle into the middle of the story just to have a gun battle. Better if the gun battle erupts, for example, because the MC is discovered by the villain's henchmen and he has to fight his way out of the warehou...

Here's a tip from writing screenplays: start late, end early.
Meaning get to the essential action of the scene, then stop and move to the next scene.

I read SF and Fantasy. I write SF and Fantasy. Although at the moment, I'm writing SF.
I also read mystery, mostly the Spenser novels by Robert Parker.
