Re: YA Romantic SF; *Revised 5/24*

The beginning you put back there does help explain why the girls were moving stuff around so that's good. That being said, I still don't feel like Annie and their dad's reaction to the guy fit quite right. I would believe their animosity more if he had actually done or said something a-holey or som...

Re: Out of curiosity

I think one of my problems is that I don't have a genre per sé. I would call it chick lit because of my pull toward romance, but it varies between YA and Adult. I write what I read, and I want to try my hand at a contemporary romance. LOL I'll tell you how that goes!

Re: My Self-Publishing Experiment - Initial Results.

I think it's great that you have the will to venture into the unknown, and share your results with us. I have to admit that your numbers are a tad better than I would've expected. You might be on to something and I hope you keep us posted. Good luck with everything!

Re: (This thread is not yet titled)

I usually write my whole piece once than pick a line out of the book and make it the first title. Then I start my revisions and think of other titles. Finally I'll end up with about 10 possible titles and ask other's opinions and take it from there. Even then I sometimes change it again. Even my cur...

Re: Viewpoint Character Dies

I agree with Margo. Did you ask the editors why they felt it wouldn't work. If their reasons are just because you don't suppose to, then I say you follow your own feeling about it. Only you know your characters and your story and if you think it's an important detail in making the story work, I say ...

Re: YA Romantic SF; *Revised 4/27*

~~~~~~~ First, why are they moving furniture? Did they just move in because there's nothing that mentions that. Also I still don't understand or quite believe why Annie suddenly hates him and thinks hes a jerk. Like I said, he was being polite and attempted to help them. Nothing in anything he said ...
Re: Panic at the finish line approaches
I personally understand how you are feeling. I can't count how many times I've updated my fb to say "It's done" only to realize that it still isn't good enough for me. I've revised...revised again...and revised even more, to the point that I'm scared I'll kill my script with revisions. I'v...
Re: YA Romantic SF; two different versions need opinions
You guys are so helpful. In my original draft I gave a two paragraph discription but was told that it was an "info dump" I'm not even sure I've posted that version on here. It's completely different. It's one of the reason there were 97,000 words. I have so many revisions, I have a hard ti...
Re: YA Romantic SF; two different versions need opinions
Yeah, I know what you mean about the conflict, I almost started it a few chapters later, but then I'd have to back track. I was told you should never do that. I wanted to introduce Matt (the mystery boy) earlier in the book so it wouldn't seem as though he'd popped up out of no where, which is almos...
Re: Writers and Being Lonely
I don't know how to answer this because I am a lonely person by nature which is why I think I've always turned to writing. With that being said, most people I meet immediately assume I'm a people person, but that's because I have an outgoing personality, but all and all, at the end of the day, I fin...
Re: Darker is the Memory [Gritty/Crime/Contemporary]
First I would like to tell you that I think this could be an interesting read. As far as wondering is Benard a likable character, I'd say yes and no. He's likable in the sense that he has other admirations other than becoming a thug. But the fact that he has a temper, and he decides to turn to robbi...
YA Romantic SF; *Revised 5/24*
I added back my beginning, but changed some of the dialogue. I think it's feels more natural although there is one piece that bother's me. If anyone mentions it, I'll change it. Thanks ahead, and here it goes... The sound of the shutters crashing against my window startled me out of my nap. The win...
Re: What Do You Write For?
Well, from what I've heard (which may be wrong), atheists simply do not believe in God, but agnostics are kind of on the fence and might be willing to believe if someone is able to prove to them that He exists. My MC is this version of agnostic, which I've found fits him rather well. You have hit i...
Re: What Do You Write For?
Most people that are totally against it aren't necessarily athiest, but more anti-thiest (yes there's a difference). You're right, there is a difference, and I think your term "anti-theist" captures it better than my "hardcore atheist." Looking back at my earlier post I think I ...
