Re: What's in a Name?

yeah, the crazy thing is you name a Character and then several drafts later, you could never imagine them being anyone else.

my names are simple.
Jake
Michelle
Alex
rebekah
chelsea

but that's who they are. I can't see naming them anything else.

Casual Friday takes a look at first books and if they're terrible (via our on going discussion).

Re: Do first books always suck?

I've been working on the first book for a while. It's a story I like and want to make work. I found a copy of some of the first draft. It was terrible. Bad enough that I wondered why I ever considered doing this :) but it's gotten better. LOTS better. I've written probably about 1,000 pages. Most of...

Re: Query / synopsis :: MASQUERADE UPDATED (5/11)

Jake Wilson has just discovered that he has been assigned a project at work with his evil, red-headed ex-girlfriend. This is not just any ex-girlfriend. This is the ex-girlfriend. She’s the benchmark, but she also has a bad habit of showing up at the worst times … or the times just become the worst....

Re: (This thread is not yet titled)

I'm definitely a titler. I've already titled my next four ideas: Songs for the Day After How I Spent New Years with the Mob The Man Who Killed God The Machiavellian Debate It's fun and helps with my theme for the book. Though, I reserve the right to change the title at any point. I have a buddy and ...

Re: Query / synopsis :: MASQUERADE

Also, I'm not sure coming-of-age qualifies as a proper genre. This character sounds too old for it to be young-adult, but maybe I'm wrong. If it is YA, definitely include your character's age and mention YA as the genre. He's technically a young-adult :) he's 28. The genre is almost impossible to p...

I told one of my readers that I thought a scene was terrible. They disagreed.

Which is why I wrote:

Re: Running Dialogue

Hey, guys, I think you may have dug a little deeper into this than you needed to. Did you ever think that maybe all the dialog needed was a little pause here and there? Could a character stand up? Yawn? Run their fingers through their hair? Now, I cannot say exactly what it needs without seeing the...

Re: Do you "warm up" before writing?

I depends on what part of the process I'm in. If I'm in the creative process, then I don't really care how well it is writen. I feel I am a good writer, and I can make it pretty later. During the beginning stages, it's more important to get the story going. Once I've got a basic story/plot, I write ...
