Re: Manga, Magic and Genre Pedantry...
Nope you aren't alone at all. Two of my WIPs, and to some degrees a third, are heavily influenced by my love of manga, anime, and Japanese light novels, particularly in terms of where a story might go and the various themes. When I read one of my novels to him, my sweetie said he could tell it was m...

Re: Viewpoint Character Dies
I'd certainly hope a viewpoint character could die, otherwise it makes for a boring reading world. :-) I've read plenty of novels where a viewpoint character dies (particularly suspense novels that also include the viewpoint of the "bad guy"). In my own novels, I have major view point char...

Re: CreateSpace
Since NaNo gives you a free proof for "winning", I've done one with them. After reading the instructions and going down them while working with my Word doc, I was able to get the formatting done nicely. I used their cover creator web app, using a photo I took as the main image. All in all,...

Re: How do you read?
Depends on where I'm reading :-) When I'm reading on the sofa, I'll usually lean against the arm with my head on my left hand and my right holding my book in my lap or in the air. If it is a larger book, both hands holding. When I'm reading in bed, I'll either lay on my side with the book on the pil...

10. This 200,000 word novel is the start of my 20 book series, and I fully expect it will be bigger than Twilight, Harry Potter, even Lord of the Rings! Hollywood is going to be beating down your door to turn them all into films!

Re: Writing Sex Scenes
Although, I still, for the record, admire someone who can write a darn good sex scene. I can't do it. I can't write fight scenes either. The mechanics of it baffle me when it comes to writing. I'm not that aware of the physical universe - I tend to be be more intuitive than perceptive, so writing s...

Re: Writing Sex Scenes
Wow, overnight/day thread explosion! Weeee....skipping some of stuff (though Poly rocks!), to get back to this question. I'm curious about a few things (and, everyone who writes sex scenes, please do chime in). Have you written other books with sex in them? Did you go about writing the scenes in the...

Re: Chances are, you won't get rich.
Heck, a $5000 advance would make me pretty happy :-) I know I'd dance around my house if I got that check in the mail and start calling people I know to scream in their ear. LOL Depending on the tax bracket, though, put away $1450, not $1k for the taxes. The rest isn't a lot, but would pay off nearl...

Re: When do you revise your MS?
Normally, I would wait until you hear from all of the ones you have out first to see if it is consistent. However, if you agree with it, I'd say go ahead and get to work. Just keep a separate copy of the one you have out in submission now so you know which version the responses are responding to. :-)

Re: Do you keep your drafts?
I do while I'm working on it, in case I want to go back and compare, or review any notes I made in an area, especially with the paper draft. If/when its accepted and published, I'll probably keep them zipped up (electrons don't cost much) for historical purposes for awhile. The printed ones will be ...

Re: Why I Don't Tell People I Write
I tell family members who care (i.e. my mom, who loves to read as well), my best friend, my blog readers, two or three coworkers who are actually friends (and even then, not much about what my novels are about), and of course my boyfriend. I don't talk about it much with any of them, though, except ...

Re: What to do with parents?
Hmmm...of my two YA area WIPS, the female MC is an orphan due to some violent circumstances, the male MC has a father, but his mother is dead, and the supporting characters all have parents mentioned but unseen. In the other, most of my characters are either orphans or have a father but no mother an...
