Will technology kill book publishing? Not even close

Hi all, Just thought I'd point to a really good and most importantly upbeat article in USA Today titled "Will technology kill book publishing? Not even close". Some good points made, and it's Friday, right? So let's accentuate the positive here. The link: http://www.usatoday.com/news/opini...

New publishing services for POD authors -- CompletelyNovel

Hi all, Just saw this press release: http://www.booktrade.info/index.php/showarticle/28907 . Looks interesting -- I like the idea of being able to choose your printer and then printing distinct editions of your book in different countries. Has anyone come across this site already? If so, care to sha...

Re: ISBN numbers???

Hi Transitoria, My advice here is: tread very carefully. I'm no expert, but my understanding is that once you have an ISBN assigned to your book, you can't get another one assigned to the same title, even if it's a different version. Basically, there are major advantages to getting an ISBN attached ...

It's never too late to get published... and some app news

Hi all, Just saw this over on the Guardian website. Gives hope to writers of all ages, though I'm sure most of us would like to believe we won't have to wait until we are 82 years old to get that elusive publishing deal: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jun/28/teacher-82-first-book-deal Also saw th...

Re: Interesting new site - The Literary Platform

Further to my link, some of you may like to check this article out -- a digital-embracing writer's view on what the publishers of the future should be offering writers. Good stuff. Nathan, would love to hear your thoughts... http://www.theliteraryplatform.com/2010/04/the-future-of-publishing-%E2%80%...

Interesting new site - The Literary Platform

Hi all - A new site has just appeared that I thought readers of Nathan's blog might appreciate - http://www.theliteraryplatform.com/about/ Courtesy of the site: "The Literary Platform is dedicated to showcasing projects experimenting with literature and technology. It brings together comment fr...

From Paris With... Not Love

Hi all, Saw this in The Guardian and thought it comment-worthy. Crime writer Lalie Walker is in hot water after setting her latest thriller around a famous Parisian fabric store, Montmatre. The owners of the apparently well-loved company that runs the place are suing her for defamation -- because th...

Good article on how print will not die

Hi all, For your reading pleasure... A good article over at the Guardian was just posted offering a very measured view of the ever-changing world of ebooks and how (broadly) history has already proved that books last and fads pass. It's a sober voice in a world currently drunk on techno-fetishism an...

"Bookify" - A Good Idea?

Hi all

Saw this on the Guardian's website re: Bookify. A VERY good idea, if you ask me, and a great potential revenue source for publishers and authors:

Re: Ask Nathan

Hi Nathan, This is a weird one. Hypothetical: there's a writer friend who is a rare genius, but is rather stubborn and unusual in his manner. One of his particular quirks is that he wants to find an agent - or at least wants to find a publisher for his book(s) - but does not want to deal with an age...

Speed Reading Pitfalls - Link

Hi all, Found a link on the Guardian website discussing speed-reading. Can you speed-read literature? Why would you? And if you do fancy yourself a speed-reader, do you believe that you're potentially missing out on subtleties that writers spend half their lives agonising over? Does this concern you...
