Re: "View From The Edge of the World" Query

Just a quick note to say I love your title! Thanks! (it's actually a reference to the Celtic conception of the afterlife...) here are a lot of names floating around in this query. People, locations. A lot of sons and mentors and nephews and lovers. It'd be nice to see a shorter, less complicated ve...

Re: "View From The Edge of the World" Query

Help has been very, very much appreciated! Here is yet another attempt. *** Dear Awesome Agent, When Rose MacRae’s family tries to derail her teaching career by marrying her off to a boorish family friend, she storms out of Miller’s Bay, Nova Scotia to start over in the United States. She cuts off c...

Re: Query -- The Butterfly Key -- Complete revision ON PAGE 2

its been a grueling endeavor to try and perfect this query letter.. It's almost harder to write the letter than the novel, I think! Shortly after Christian Bryson promises to fulfill his wife’s dream of starting a family, he learns he is deploying for war. I would say "is deployed for war"...

Re: "View From The Edge of the World" Query

Cool? Hey now, don’t Geeks Rule? But if anyone thinks I’m cool, please let me know right away so I can tell my mom. DUH. (you can count that as material for a phone call to mom). And frankly, I'm assuming that the agent on the receiving end of the query is going to be as big a geek as I am... just ...

Re: Of Shadows And Angels - Query about a query

Some say the Phantoms are parasites, others survivors. But everyone agrees they didn’t have a choice. Mankind’s scientists thought they had found a gravitational anomaly. It turned out just one experiment separated the Phantom’s dimension of pure energy from the material plane. It was nearly the end...

Re: Are you a good loser?

Weirdly, I respond better to specific criticism, probably because I'm used to having my scientific writing ripped. Point out a specific problem with something I've done, and I'll fix it. Embarrassingly, form rejections freak me out. My brain goes into overdrive trying to figure it out (think "t...

Thanks for the feedback, all! It was incredibly helpful. Here is the new and (hopefully) improved version of my letter. *** Dear Awesomely Cool Agent, When Rose MacRae’s family tries to derail her career plans by marrying her off to a boorish family friend, she storms out of Miller’s Bay, Nova Scoti...

Bears.
Monkeys are clever, but bears are just... bears.

And as someone who has spent a good deal of time working at a zoo, I feel qualified to say this...lol.

Re: "View From The Edge of the World" Query

Thanks for the feedback!

Part of my issue with this query is that there are several major viewpoint characters. However, I will make an effort to explain their importance, and make that second paragraph less confusing.

"View From The Edge of the World" Query

I've gotten a few form rejection letters so far, and I'm trying to figure out if it's the story, my writing.... or the query letter. Feel free to rip into the letter-- I see this as a very "technical" bit of writing, and will not take anything personally! Also, since English isn't my first...

Re: So...Star Wars or Star Trek?

I must confess I must be the only person in Western civilisation who never got Star Wars. But the original Star Trek brightened up my childhood. What with Kirk pulling in his stomach and McCoy's bad toupe, not to mention all those semi clad Trekettes in soft focus. All so gloriously un-PC, unlike t...

Re: The Ghost Posts a Query - Yikes and Away!

When twenty-year-old Jodie Belay kidnaps a young girl, she believes she is saving the child’s life. So does the FBI agent watching Jodie. Nice hook here. The only thing missing would be a tidbit on Jodie (ie, When twenty-year-old goldfish trainer Jodie Belay...or whatever she does with herself). It...

Something suspiciously BDD-like. I revise. Compulsively. What I write is never good enough, and I'll pick it over to infinity.
