I think Nathan's right. It just comes through trial, error, and hard work.

Re: A couple of questions re: YA & queries
Hi, Jordyn, I've gotten some advice on this from the forums at www.querytracker.net, and they said to always include the age of the MC if it's a YA book :). Usually, you can find a place to put it in where it's not too awkward. It's like the wordcount--it doesn't come up naturally, but still needs t...

Re: PARTIAL REQUEST!!!! help please?
First of all, CONGRATS!! :D That is awesome! I'd say when in doubt, follow their instructions :). While I'm sure it won't be a cardinal sin to send them four chapters instead of three, it's always a good plan to give them what they're asking for. Also, is there a way to make the end of chapter three...

Re: Excerpt: Under a Dead Moon
UNDER A DEAD MOON is a dark fantasy epic that follows a young noblewoman, Fierine, as she turns to forbidden magic to fight the winds of change in the kingdom she loves. There are some hefty themes in the story--an arcane-powered industrial revolution, social unrest, misbehaving nobles, magical and...

Re: Query--Legacy of the Empress (fantasy)
I <3 you guys :)!! Thank you all for taking the time to read this and make suggestions. I especially love the suggestions about better verbs/cutting out the passive voice. That is my biggest writing weakness, and I hacked and burned it out of my manuscript, but not out of my query! Oy vey. It's all ...

Re: Blog Traffic...Creating a Traffic Jam
One thing I've found really helpful is commenting on other's blogs :). People can follow your profile to your blog, and often do! Also, it's a great way to connect with others in the blogging community, which always helps.
Good luck to you!

Re: Band Names if I had a band
Haha, "We Were Promised Jet Packs" is an awesome name!
How about a heavy metal band called Passive Voice? Eh? Eh?
That passive voice can be pretty brutal, after all ;).
