I don't know where you are in the process of your novel now but like others have said, you should definitely change the characters names just to protect the individual that disclosed that information to you. Not necessarily. I often buy books based on reviews that I read, and recommendations.

I have to agree with some of the other responses, in saying that we all have a creative bug in us. I actually think that sometimes the TV, cellphone, Ipod, etc. can impede on your natural creative instinct. I often have to turn away from TV, cellphone, etc. to get into my creative mode.
