From what I understand this right here is the very reason it is highly suggested on many agent blogs that you only write the first book of a series and worry about the other two once you get the first published. This is my first post, and I'm kind of a newbie, but I do read alot of YA books. What I see is a story about 5 teens learning to survive in a world gone to hell, narrowly escaping exploitation and having to make some tough decisions.
