Re: Replying to a rejection?? Any thoughts on this?
I thought it was just good manners to simply thank the agent for looking at your work, anything else would be extra.

Re: To e-book or not to e-book?
I haven't been visiting these forums too often because I've been trying to find new ways to promote and find a literary agent. I have a web site, http://www.laurenjohnson.me I published my book on smashwords first, http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/9611 then createspace, http://www.amazon.com/Vis...

Re: To e-book or not to e-book?
A little more than a month ago I posted as to whether or not if it's a good idea to go e-book first... I'm back and it doesn't seem like anyone cares: a) because I keep reading articles about publishing companies not taking on as many new authors as they normally would because of their budgets b) pu...

Re: Music or quiet when you write?
The music helps me move along and to connect my ideas during the outline. Music really helps out when everyone decides to use my quiet writing time to be nosy and talk to me. I've learned to adapt to the music. When writing, I make sure things are silent. I write real late at night. The same for edi...

Re: Small Press Publishers
I don't know, I could look. That might not be a bad idea for me to check out anyway, I'm finding out that YA just doesn't mean Goosebumps or Lois Duncan anymore.

Re: Publishing a Series
It makes sense to me, even though this isn't a novel, Star Wars was done out of order for a reason A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, 456, were far more interesting than the prequels. I don't think Star Wars would have had as many fans as it does today if they did if the...

Re: Book trailers: who makes them, $$$, and are they worth it
I think it depends on the audience too, I've made several book trailers. The first one is not so good because I've taken a whole bunch of copyright information and I expect for it to be pulled at any day at any moment, lol. I was in college, they had final cut pro and I was just learning the program...

Re: Naming Characters
I use baby name web sites too, it usually helps if you have an attribute in mind for the character. Like if your character is happy and filled with light, you might want to name her Lucy because Lucy means light (according to the baby name site) so you may want to work it that way. OR, it's more tim...

The problem with web sites is not getting the hits but turning the hits into sales.

Re: Books and Movies Based on Them
Do you prefer to read a book before you see a film, or do you prefer to see the film and then read the book? I perfer to read the book first then see the movie. That way I understand more than what I'm seeing, I know that they can't put the whole book into movie format so if there's a character who...

Re: Writing. What's your favorite part? Your Hardest Lesson?
My favorite part is unfolding the story.
The hardest part is introducing the characters and keeping them clear for the reader.

Re: How many projects do you work on at once?
I have issues because my mind won't leave me alone. i work on more things than I should at one time, it's a wonder that I get anything completed. But when you have a part-time job and you have all day to write I guess it's a little easier - it helps to keep you busy from being annoyed that you have ...

Re: So I had a dream about...
It's strange for me to happen upon this thread because I created these characters a year ago and I'm just starting to have dreams about them. It might be guilt because I finished the book and didn't go back to edit it, instead I started a new one (don't ask me why I did that I can't tell you). So on...

Re: The New Website
I like it here. It's a wonderful change. I'm not used to finding places on the internet where people write in complete sentences and use proper grammer. ::sigh:: It's nice. And there's people here who write, just like me, or people here who are looking for agents and publishers, just like me. And th...

Re: What We’re Going to Have to Give Up and Get Used To
Fiction authors will probably not be able to make a living from their writing until later in their careers. Of course there will always be the lottery winners who score a major movie deal or are raised up to be the next hot child of some major publisher. But most authors won’t be known until they ha...
