Re: How important are quotes/blurbs from reviewers on backcover?

Better, I think, to focus on getting the cover copy just right and reaching out to people who know and care about us to write endorsements for inside. Those come across as heartfelt and real, and as a reader/book buyer, I find that authentic words from ordinary people like me move me more than what...

Re: Small and independent publishers

Kannan - that's interesting. In all my reading on the publishing world, I didn't realize that most small publishers were going out of business. May I ask where you found that information? Hillary - sorry, *most* corrected to *many*. I got the information from my reasearch and reading on the world w...

Re: Small and independent publishers

Hi Ermo, These days many small publishers are going out of business thanks to Self publishing. So if you don't end up with a contract with the Big 6 publishers, you are better off starting your own publishing label and self-publishing your book through Createspace or LSI (Lightning Source) than to g...

Re: How important are quotes/blurbs from reviewers on backcover?

Thanks Doug! BTW sorry forgot to mention, that the book in question is a non-fiction book of "Personal Growth/ Spirituality Genre." Would you like to add anything in the light of this new information.

Thanks!
Kannan

How important are quotes/blurbs from reviewers on backcover?

I recently had my book published with the help of my sister. [Edit : Please note, It's a non-fiction book of "personality growth/ spirituality" genre ] It's presently just available through online outlets like Amazon and Barnes & Noble's, but it is soon to be available in some independ...

Re: Book trailers: who makes them, $$$, and are they worth it

I notice that this thread was originally posted on 2009, so not sure if my answer is still relevant. Here is my attempt at a book trailer. For those who are curious, the images used in the trailer are from wonderful people who have shared their work on deviantart.com (I asked for their permissions o...

Re: How To Handle A Request For An Exclusive?

Hmm...its a tricky one if you have already sent it out to another agent. Initially I started querying out by saying "I am querying multiple agents but will be happy to give you exclusivity for 4-6weeks if you are interested in reviewing the entire manuscript." But then I deleted the line t...

Notw, Guardian and Fenris: Those are some good points. Looks like the best thing to do is to not reply.

Thank you,

Should you reply to an agent or is it unnecessary?

When you get personal replies from some agents saying, they found it interesting but are going to pass; Is it okay to reply saying something like : "Thank you for your reply and kind comments -best wishes XYZ" just to thank them for the human reply. Or do they find it unnecessary and distr...

Re: Query: The Soul Baby the Trickster and the Golden Buddha

Micheal, It is a well written query. I will give you my 2 cents from the perspective of a reader... Firstly, the title "The Soul baby the Trickster and the Golden Buddha" is not engaging enough. I am not sure why I would like to pick up a book with such a title. I am sure there must be a v...

Re: Opinions On Posting First Chapters Online

I think it is pretty safe for you to post your first chapter if your intention is to get some comments and critique. However, If the intention is to send the link to an agent, perhaps its not a very good idea IMO for two reasons: 1. (like cheekychook already mentioned) some agents might be looking f...

Re: Agents, Small Publishers, Self-Publishing, and the Drawer

Just my two cents 1. I am new to this too, but from my brief experience, getting a referral gives you a much better chance at getting your work looked at than through sending unsolicited queries. Try to get a referral from someone you know. Even Nathan's blog post mentioned that referral is still th...

Re: What paper size and format should your manuscript be in?

Thanks Quill and Polymath! That's really good information. I think I am going to get some books printed through Lulu without getting the ISBN. BTW why is it that agents prefer manuscripts only as loose sheets? Would they be really pissed off if I sent it as a nice bound book? Would it help them in v...

What paper size and format should your manuscript be in?

What paper size and format should you write your manuscript in for a) Submitting to agents or publishers b) Self-publishing (without getting ISBN), just to circulate books among friends for review 1. What size paper format do you use? 2. SIngle space, 1.5 spacing or double spacing? 3. What font size...
