Re: How Do I Become A Literary Agent?
I'm living in Luxor. (Moved to Egypt last Nov.) I know nothing about becoming a literary agent in Egypt. But I thought it might be interesting to be in touch. But you're probably in Cairo. What am I doing in Egypt? Working on revision of my novel. At least, that's what I'm supposed to be doing! Don...

How Do I Become A Literary Agent?
First of all, I know there are a million articles out there about this. But the thing is, there aren't any literary agents in my country, Egypt. Authors query publishers directly, and I find this inconvenient because I'm an editor and I know how many manuscripts that could've been better, and could'...

Re: Is this a joke?? Nathan? Really?
I really, really thought he was kidding. I double-checked my calender to see how far we are from April. Then I kept looking for the punch line, but there's none. :(

Re: The Introduction Thread
Hey all, I've been here for a while now, but that's the first time I see this thread. So, an official Hi :) My name is -obviously- Mariam Maarouf, and I'm an author. My debut novel, ROSIE, will be released January 2011 by Alexandria Library for Publishing & Distribution. I live in Egypt. Um, I'm...

Re: First page of YA novel, Jasmine Powers, Super Geek
*clasps* Great job. I can't find a thing to criticize (not even the italics. I loved them; they added character, and I connected with the MC in less than 300 words. Usually, I don't connect with characters until later on, so awesome job on that). If I really, really, really had to find something neg...

Re: First 250 words: YA fantasy
I just wanted to say that I personally think it's a good start. Keep it up. However, I got a little bit distracted while reading; it's either the character is having incoherent thoughts, or my tea latte + The Social Network's very fast-speaking MC have affected my intellectuality. :) Oh, and the su...

Re: How often do you read your manuscript?
Whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, I re-read a certain chapter or part because it doesn't sound good enough to me. But, mainly, I re-read whenever I stop writing for more than two days straight so I can get everything together in my head and keep a consistent, real voice. Other times, I feel like r...

Re: Agents in Other Countries
If they like your writing then I don't think they care where you are based. I'd say go for it, don't limit yourself. The world is much smaller thanks to email, find some targets and send out those queries to the agents you think might be good to work with. Fingers crossed that you find your agent. ...

Re: Agents in Other Countries
You guys are lucky you even have agents where you are; where I live the whole agent thing is non-existent: there are exactly zero agents in the Arab Republic of Egypt. I got my book deal by direct submission to the editor - here, to survive, you have to be your own agent and publicist (and still man...
