Re: Contructing a Fantasy Super writing group

I'm cool with it. I'm still in the middle of moving and taking care of psycho car stuff, but I should be in the Black Hills (my end destination) on Saturday and then things will be a bit more like normal.

Re: Contructing a Fantasy Super writing group

I have added both of you, hillsy and dios4vida as friends. Here is my link: http://breakinglit.livejournal.com/

I don't know about the two of you, but I'm starting to get a little excited. I'll get my intro posted as soon as I can, probably sometime tomorrow.

Re: Contructing a Fantasy Super writing group

I'm fine with using LiveJournal and starting any time. For the proposal I thought it may be easier to just type it up as an intro post. That way we can describe the novel, maybe what we want each other to watch out for, and different themes we may have been trying to express or something. I guess wh...

Re: Contructing a Fantasy Supergroup

I like the idea of starting out at 1000 words a week. Seems like a good jumping off point. But I'm a tad concerned about posting on LiveJournal. I've never used it, but I'm a little uncomfortable having my work out there so anyone can see it. Or is there a way to limit who can see it?

Re: Contructing a Fantasy Supergroup

I'm interested. I'm just starting a new job, so I may be a tad slow with readings at first depending when we start. I just rewrote my "baby" in a different form of fantasy. If I had to compare my work to any author it'd be Neil Gaiman (although I'm not sure how like his work mine really is...

Re: Contests/Magazines

Thanks, Ryan. I actually don't consider any contest or publication that requires a fee. Even if it's 5-10$ I know that after a while that'll add up.

Contests/Magazines

I have a sort of supernatural short story. Does anyone know of good writing contests or magazines I could submit to? The only one I really know is Writers of the Future, but I don't think mine fits the genre requirements.

Re: Showing vs. Telling

Thanks for the help everyone! dios4vida, last week actually I started looking for those words and highlighting them so I could get them fixed. It's a great method!

Re: Characters Who Should Have Died

In that case, maybe sometime I'll give the rest of the series a try. Besides the love triangle, though, I didn't care for the ending. It seemed awkward and forced.

Re: With a twist...

One thing I've enjoyed about books is the subtlety of the clues. Sometimes I can pick them out and other times I can't. It adds to the mystery of the story. I don't want to know what happens in the end. Usually that means it's because the story has been done many times before. Of course, sometimes I...

Re: Characters Who Should Have Died

I'm not going to lie, I was a little happy to see Katniss on the list. I was excited when the first book was told in present tense. I thought it'd be more powerful if she died. Also, the love triangle is the reason I have never read the last two books in the trilogy. As soon as it was confirmed in t...

Showing vs. Telling

One of my weak points is that I know what it means to show, but I struggle with the how. What are your best tips on changing your telling to showing?
