Re: Novels With Multiple Plot Lines

For reading suggestions, I'd bet that most historical fiction has multiple plot lines simply because you're trying to tie the character's story in with the major events of the time. So, I'm sure you can find lots of good examples. My favorite historical fic. of all time is The Far Pavilions by M.M. ...

Re: Launch PartAY! Advice?/Press Releases?

Ryan, First of all, congrats! That's awesome, man! I also do PR for my day job, so I write press releases all the time. The key is to put the most important info up front, make it relevant to the media (ie: local ties or events, review opportunities, etc.) and try to keep it to about a page. You'll ...

Re: Novels With Multiple Plot Lines

Lots of great advice here! I'd echo what others said about reading novels with lots of plotlines and trying to get a bit more organized up front. However, I also think this first MS is an opportunity to find your style and comfort zone. Some people are intense outliners, others are complete pantsers...

Re: How do you interact with your fave authors online?

Thanks for the responses, guys. SO interesting! I have self-published some fantasy and urban fantasy short stories under my name. Great reviews, but very few sales (after an initial surge that landed the first one on some Top 100 lists on Amazon). I obsessed about the social networking and platform ...

How do you interact with your fave authors online?

I've been wondering this for a while, so I thought I'd throw it out to the forums. How do you interact with your favorite authors online? Do you visit websites, become a Facebook fan, follow them on Twitter? I know we're all scrambling to try to figure out how to maximize social media as writers, bu...

Re: Game of Thrones

I've read the first two books. Martin is a powerhouse writer and I love the fantasy genre, but after the second book, I just couldn't take the constant beating up on his characters. I'm all for making it difficult for 'em, but they NEVER get a break from Martin...seriously. It started to drive me nu...

Re: Query idea: MARKED - YA

I kinda like it...but I think it would be stronger if you somehow intro'd your MC too. Right now, you give us a decent overview of the world, but the characters and stakes are missing. Can you incorporate your MC's name into this and make it personal to her while keeping this out-of-the-box style? I...
