Re: Is it a bad thing to not be serious?

Actually, I'll have to contradict Guardian here. No problem as you're right. You misunderstood me, but that's my fault as I forgot to explain my point completely. I meant I also don't really like true humor in most hard or dark situations, but cynic or sarcastic remarks may be in play anytime (Whic...

Re: Fiction Factory???

Frey and other factory-like situations pay people money. That's a good thing.
Underpaying people, exploiting naive writers is never a good thing.

Re: Fiction Factory???

No, I wouldn't be surprised. I would be surprised if they didn't receive a fair share of the proceeds from their labors. Financial pyramid schemes are illegal because they promise huge returns that can't possibly be realized except by the apex of the pyramid. Agree. Plus there is a chance the name ...

Re: Should you reply to an agent or is it unnecessary?

You may to respond it, but it's really unnecessary. It's used to bother most of the agents. Only very few like it. But you never going to learn which one.

Re: Fiction Factory???

Actually a writer (Be it good or bad, really matter) doesn't need to join to these sort of factories, or team up with other "well known" writers (Actually I never heard about this guy.). I always used to be mistrustful with these sort of things. #1: If he is a truly good author as it's men...

Re: Is it a bad thing to not be serious?

I can't see any problem with this Sierra. You should keep interactions, dialogues, descriptions like this one in the story.

Re: Huge Dialogue Blocks

You may use the followings to break a long dialogue; - Tell what your character see (i.e. Shadows sneaking behind him, reaction of the other character, something at the far, etc, etc...) - Tell what your character hear (i.e. music, wind's whistling, the conversation of the mass around the character,...

Re: Is it a bad thing to not be serious?

So I wouldn't dare make a joke in a VERY SRS one. Try it. There is no problem if your character is making a "half-funny" remark in a very srs, hopeless scene or when anger is overwhelming the character. The timing is the essence and the tone what your character is using. Even if it's a se...

Re: Does anyone ever lose that spark?

Yes. i.e. I lost the "spark" in my favorite WIP few month ago so I switched to my other project. Now I lost the spark in that one so I reverted back to the first one as in the meantime I got that spark back! Sometimes you just need to take a short break to see the full picture again and ge...

Re: Is it a bad thing to not be serious?

Humor is good in fantasy, IF and is a very huge IF... if it's not presented on the trendy mainstream style: useless sidekick with "funny" one liners. Those are the most bothering "humor" presentations in a fantasy. Actually I love cynic and sarcastic characters. My favorite chara...

Re: Famous planners and famous pantsers

The characters will do what they want to do, no matter what you plan. I have a technique to merge this along with the planning. I write the beginning and the ending of the novel or the script. That's the planning phase. Then my character can do anything what she / he want between the two, while she...

Re: Agents: nay, Beta readers: yay

Thank you very much for your answer. So no matter how much your beta readers may like your work, success with beta readers is not necessarily going to translate with success with agents I'm afraid. I suspected that. I just don't know what to say to few people whose are wondering why it's still not b...

Re: Ever Have A Character That Made You Cry?

Actually I did not cry, but I was close to it. The last two volumes of my WIP is full with emotional scenes and Volume 3 has the best moments in the last chapters where I was capable to feel the loss and the hopeless strugling of the MC. To me these scenes was the hardest to write, but a good and sa...

Agents: nay, Beta readers: yay

Dear Nathan, My present WIP got few??? rejections in the last half year (More then 20) so I had great doubts and I believed something is wrong with it. You know, the concept, the characters, the story, the world itself, the descriptions, etc, etc... Now some really trustworthy beta readers tested th...
