Re: Twitter Dilemma

I've actually worried about this. I probably follow three or four times as many people than I have followers. But it's not a matter of wanting the followers back, it's every day I see ten more people that I want to follow. It's so easy. You just press a button. Then someone goes to your page and see...

Want to kill all day? Slaughterhouse 90210

http://slaughterhouse90210.tumblr.com/ The Huffington Post linked Slaughterhouse 90210 this afternoon as a site you should be wasting time on right now. It's hours later I'm still clicking through it. It pairs literary quotes with matching images from TV shows. Addicting and reading all the excerpts...

Re: Query: ERHISTAUT (YA fantasy)

This sounds really cool, here are some suggestions. Hello everyone, I'm new here :) It would be lovely if people could offer some comments/suggestions on a query I am in the process of perfecting. Thank you so much, in advance! Attn. Mr./ Mrs.: ERHISTAUT is a 96,000-word fantasy novel for young adul...

Re: Using 'this' in past tense

Thanks for helping clear this up guys. Especially happy to see Polymath chime in, I knew he could help, was worried he'd went into seclusion. I was throwing the word in to add voice to a certain passage and thought it might mess up the tense, glad it doesn't. Sounds better with it.

Using 'this' in past tense

Maybe a dumb question, but if a story is written in past tense, and it's all he did, he said, can you use the word 'this?' Does it bring it into the realm of present tense? Rough example: John had been a ninja for years. He knew who could hack it. And this kid, with his pink hair and designer sungla...

Re: Query: Plowshares into Swords - science fiction

This sounds really cool. The one thing I'd suggest is losing most of the asides, the of courses and after alls. It makes it seem like your trying too hard when the story can stand on it's own [quote="matt"]I welcome your critique of my query letter. Dear Agent Person, Fifteen-year old Laza...

Re: THE SECOND DEATH OF JUAN LA ROCA: Revision # 1

I think the query's even better now (and it was pretty good to begin with). I like that the reasons people seem to love La Roca are superficial, it makes Valdes more likeable. I would just remove the word 'but' at the beginning of the third paragraph, 'So' at the beginning of the fourth paragraph an...

Re: QUERY: THE LAST DRAGON (Fantasy)

First off, that twist is awesome. I would agree with the previous poster though, that beginning seems a little cliched, you might lose someone before the big twist. Maybe you could condense the beginning and just be like she doesn't wanna marry Prince Kellen etc, so she goes to help the last dragon....

Re: THE SECOND DEATH OF JUAN LA ROCA: lit fiction query

I really like this. It's tight, original and the title is awesome. It seems the main crux of the story is hid relationship with his daughter. I wonder, does she remind him of La Roca in any way? Why is she going against her father, when it seems they have a fairly loving relationship? Also, in the f...

Re: QUERY -- THE FERRYMAN REVISION # 1

SECOND VERSION--- THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL ADVICE. Charlie wants what any man wants: love, adventure and the coins of recently deceased souls. After 100 years as the Underworld Ferry Group’s most talented first mate, which is a little like being the best vice president, he’s had enough. Or maybe h...

Re: YA Horror/Fantasy Query

First off if the goal of a query is to make someone read on, congratulations. I want to read this. I agree with the poster above though that this is definitely not horror, though you didn't mention that in your query. Paranormal maybe. I think I like the first version better honestly, because you ge...

The districts in Hunger Games

This could probably go in the procrastination forum as well because I've been wasting all day looking up stuff on this. Where do you think each district is in Hunger Games. A lot of fans have made maps, they're all over the place, but I'm wondering if anyone's seen a map that seems perfect. It would...

Re: Offering e-books with hard copies

I mean exactly what JTShea said, the way they bundle digital copies with the blue-ray. Like if you were to buy a book full price when it comes out (not like bargain rack at Barnes and Noble) you would be able to get the E-Book either free or a dramatically reduced rate.

Offering e-books with hard copies

I'm not sure if this has been discussed on this board. I got into a debate with a friend today about this subject. Would it be profitable for publishers to start doing this? I don't own an e-reader right now, I love owning the hard copies, but if publishers offered the e-book with the hard copy, I w...
