Writing from the perspective of a gifted teen

Hi. I have a dilemma regarding the main character of my YA novel and I was hoping that some of the writing vets here could help me out. My issue is this: my main character is a "gifted" teenage girl, but a couple of my beta readers (degrees in English, but not professionals in publishing/e...

Re: pacing

I'm not quite a "young adult" anymore (I'm 24) but I still read like one. And the YA reader in me says to be very careful if you add more to your novel simply to add more character development. You have to make sure that whatever you add, not only develops the characters, but is meaningful...

Re: feedback on word counts

Let us know how you do! I am very interested in what she tells you... I would not change a thing until you get feedback. Who knows? Maybe she'll love it! I have written a doorstopper novel, too... Re: Plot or Character - Which Comes First?

I think that the answer to this question is very personal. For me, a character develops in my head and he or she tells me what sort of situations he or she has been through and would like to go through. I base my plot off of what the character tells me. This is probably because I prefer to write in ...

Re: The Introduction Thread

Hello, My name is Dana and I'm an aspiring Young Adult author (like so many others). I started writing when I was middle school, but I didn't have time for it once I started high school. I'm about to graduate with my MAT in Elementary and Special Ed; my coursework in writing is what inspired me to s...
