Re: My frist draft is done!

Thanks for the kind words. I am super excited seeing as how I believe this will be about 170-200k when I get all my handwritten stuff in. Granted, I have noticed that a good number of my old chapters need much more work than those I have been writing recently, but it is all about the learning curve....

My frist draft is done!

Yaaaaaaaaa! I just finished the last chapter of my first novel and am so pumped. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me - such as typing out my handwritten chapters and editing - but that can't dim the happiness I am feeling right now. I am estimating that in all, this book will be over 170k long, ...

Re: How old are you?

I will turn 33 in about a month. I have a few "stories", if we use the term loosely, from high school. And during 1998-2000 I did a bit of writing for poems, but most of those were just for my journal and to get girls ;) Honestly, I have wanted to write for a living since forever, but only...

Title: Knowledge Genre: High Fantasy Chapter 1 - Phnor The cry that split the cool morning air launched entire flocks of akalats and red-necked nightjars into the sky above the Tir Forest with an accompanying chorus of startled peeps and kyok-kyok-kyok . The sorrowful wail carried on and on as if a ...

Re: Knowledge (working title) - Chapter 2

Thanks again for your time. I am going to spend some time this weekend diving into the unwritten chapters - so if you see my muse, tell her to get her tail over to my place :)

I am glad you liked it and I look forward to the time I am able to release my beta!

Re: Knowledge (working title) - Chapter 2

Hmm...I did not think there were any (or many) spelling errors? But I will comb through it some more. To date, I have written about 150k worth of this novel in long-hand before typing, of which I have only typed 20-30%. I have seven more chapters to complete before I reach my end scene. The reason I...

Re: Knowledge (working title) - opening 1,120 words

Is the book for sale or do I have to wait a while before buying? Anyway, thanks for letting me know. Now I'm off to read chapter 2... I think I love you :D No it is not finsihed yet, but I am sure that when it is, this will be the first place I let people know that it is. I have already told Nathan...

Re: Knowledge (working title) - Chapter 2

I see that people have been by to look at this chapter, but as of yet, no comments. Would it be easier if I broke it down into smaller sections for the purpose of having a critique done on these forums?

I welcome any and all suggestions or comments.

Thank you.

Re: Knowledge (working title) - opening 1,120 words

Things I like. The birds in the opening paragraph. Your description of the cottage/house. The scene within the house - yes, there is nothing I don't like. I do have a question. How was he feeding the baby? There's a mention of a midwife who, I assume, was present at the baby's birth. But no mention...

Re: The River Lethe (first few paragraphs - 450 words)

I have never heard or read any novels that jumped from first person to third in the actual story-telling. Sure, I have seen small blurbs at the beginning of chapters, or like RA Salvatore, a page or three between major sections of a book, but not as a part of the overall story. If you have an exampl...

Re: The Man Who Did Too Much scene 2 - mystery

Very nice. I think your dialogue is realistic and interesting, which is something I know is hard to make happen sometimes. I did not catch anything that stuck out as a glaring issue, but I think you should be careful when writing up your scenes. Two or three pages of one-liners can be interesting, b...

Re: The River Lethe (first few paragraphs - 450 words)

I am sorry, but I have to start out with a question. What genre is this section part of? Anyway, I think that you have set a tone here that is interesting and that everyone can easily associate with. I am sure we all know what it feels like to set out into a new school or job--the excitement, worry,...

Knowledge (working title) - Chapter 2

Here is the second, revised chapter of my novel. It is almost 5,500 words long, but I think it will be a good read with a good deal of action. Here is a link to Chapter 1 if you need context for what is happening in this chapter. Feedback and comments are welcome and appreciated! ----- Chapter 2 - P...

Thanks. When I have whipped chapter two into shape, I will post it and provide a link back to this chapter so people will know what all is happening. It has been great to have your comments! (Sorry, I am sending this from my phone).

Re: Which book have you read the most number of times?

Raymond E. Feist's Magician thru Shards of A Broken Crown - at least three or four times each. Dragons of a Autumn Twilight - I have read that so many times I could recite passages (maybe). One time when I was a kid, I finished reading it, flipped the book over, and started reading it again. And of ...
