Re: Query Crit - SotA

After feedback from my beta readers, and another revision pass resulting from that, i've reworked the query. ----- Being hunted is nothing new to Tzalaran. He’s run from mercenaries and warlocks for so long, hiding is a reflex. Upon arriving in Karat-Si’Zan, Tzal thought he could hide forever in the...

Re: Sentence Beginnings

Writing in first person will do this in parts, mostly because of what cheekychook said. You are trying to move the character through too many things and get to the next major scene or part. Revising them just takes careful study, and creative ways of addressing the same points while removing the i. ...

Re: Favorite Lines from Novels

"The machinery of government is always subordinate to the will of those operating that machinery." Herbert, taken from 'God Emperor of Dune' "For can not the mind create a heaven of hell, and a hell of heaven." Milton, taken from 'Paradise Lost' Those two quotes have been my sign...

Re: Query Crit - SotA

@JQ - thanks for the tips. i did a final tweak and then revisited your comments. Now i know why i changed what i did. i've gotten through my revision, and i think it is time to see what kind of feedback i get on this version. If you see any glaring mistakes, please let me know. Thanks! --- Tzalaran ...

'The Job' - Short story for critique

Wrote this a while ago, and just got around to revising it. It is a scene that didn't fit in the timeline of the novel, featuring the main character and the encounter that triggers his arc in the novel (well, the arc i'm revising in anyway). It is going to be posted to my blog (which is basically ju...

Re: Band Names if I had a band

i'd perform in a band called "Blunt Force Traumas". Played bass and did some drum beats for a band called "Del Negro" (members are friends of mine).

'AmalgaNation' is another name that crossed my mind. (Straight Metal head here, if you couldn't tell) ;)

Re: What are you reading now?

my youngest son made me a deal, i'd read the Ranger's Apprentice series that he bought for christmas, and he'd read a book i selected for him. Over the past 5 days i read books 1-5 (all that is out in paperback in the states, Aussies have the advantage with book 9 released there). Also picked up The...

Re: yoo-hoo.....Knight_Tour? Are you around?

Tzalaran, we will know by the end of the day whether or not the Bucs curse holds. Go Saints! The Bucco Bruce curse could still hold up, and from what i saw today the Saints won't beat the Colts. Our local channels have been out for over a month, so i didn't get to watch any of the playoff games unt...

Re: how many projects do you work on at a time?

as many as i have to, the key is just to know when you are dividing you attention to so many projects that progress in all of them stop. Each person has a different limit for this, and some people can't be productive without 3-4 projects sitting on their plate. i have to limit it to 2-3 or i get not...

Re: Advice From Amateurs?

i don't worry about if someone is un/published when they are giving me advice, i worry about the quality of that advice. Tips or comments that i find useful, i use and thank the person, those that aren't useful i ignore and thank the person for their time.

Re: Recommended Fantasy Under 150K

On a separate note, perhaps there is somebody wandering through these forums (maybe even Nathan himself!) that could enlighten us all as to the word limit cap for fantasy submissions. I've never been able to find a good answer... There is no hard set limit, and it varies from agent to agent from wh...

Re: Favorite Wii Games?

We got our sons a Wii for christmas. Super Mario Bros Wii is a terrific game, all 4 of us have played it extensively. The other games that get a lot of play in our house: We love golf, FIFA 2009, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Raymon Raving Rabbids is also an absolute blast (mostly just to watc...

Re: NFL Sunday Celebrate or Commiserate here.

was a strange year. lots of really bad teams. Whole AFC looks pretty tough, should be some great games in that conference. NFC could be a real Jekyll and Hyde scenario, those teams are either brilliant or lose to the Bucs. :S (i mean, what were Green Bay and New Orleans doing losing to this team? i ...

Re: To Trilogy or not to Trilogy - Why is that a question?

my opinion is that it stems from the 3 act structure of greek and roman drama. generally a story arc fits nicely into 3 installments, and therefore it is easy to split things in that manner. There are plenty of series that don't adhere to the trilogy (Taltos series, Sword of Truth series, Tiger and ...
