Re: Ask Nathan
Thank you very much! Please god, tell me the difference between paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Right now the distinction seems totally arbitrary and I am getting quite annoyed by trying to tell if there's a real difference or if it is all in the pitch. Well, first I'd say don't sweat it - if ...

Re: E-book experience
Mira, I will let you know. I suspect it might take me awhile. It's a concept I struggle with.

Re: E-book experience
Actually, I just bought Tim Gunn's new book! While a touch awkward in its execution so far I find the personal stories very touching. We were very similar children and he's just as warm in the book as he is on Project Runway. After that I was thinking Sunflower, which is Simon Wisenthal's book on fo...

Re: E-book experience
Mira,
I love the free classics! I picked up Jane Austen's P&P the other day for nothing. I think that's a fantastic way to get people to read, and maybe inspire people to pick up texts that they developed a childhood aversion to.
What are you reading now?

Thanks for your comments. I have revised since but I am waiting for some in-person feedback from a couple of folk before I re-post on the internet.

Re: Finding an agent with a sense of humor
Honestly I've never encountered an agent that made me think they were humorless. In fact I think a good sense of the absurd is required for the job. Furthermore I have no idea why you're worrying about an agent's personality when you don't have offers yet. Get an offer of representation, then worry ...

Re: How dark is TOO dark?
I very much believe in writing the story you want to write. Every thing imaginable has been published before, at least once.
Look up the Painted Bird if you want an example.

Re: E-book experience
I adore my Kindle, too. I do not understand the fetishizing of print books. Also I am terribly blind so the Kindle allows me to read. Without that piece of technology I would have to pass on a lot of texts. That is another reason I get upset when everyone strokes about print books as though they're ...

Re: First Page YA: opinions on voice and technique appreciated
You know, I don't read YA generally but I love the spirit of this. I love the tone. She strikes me as a teenage girl I, as the reader, could actually relate to and think of as real. Her angry words to her dead friend's body ring very true to me. I like how you've shown the anger that often comes wit...
